PAGING JEAN AND MANDYDESERT RAT/dry eye/ KRILL OIL/ASTAXANTH

Post by brandy »

Hi Jean and Mandy,

I saw the previous discussion on krill oil. Mandy thanks for listing the brand names. I'm truly suffering from dry eye although Rosie's gel procedures have helped.

I'm eating mostly paleo so am trending towards constipation so D from fish oils is not a problem for me.

At present I"m taking a serving of 1000 mg of krill oil a day. It has EPA 100. 55 DHA. Astaxanthin 1 mg.

Can you elaborate a little more on how much you are taking of each?

Much thanks. Brandy

PS. I eliminated my fish oil since mine had vitamin A in it and there was discussion months ago about too much Vitamin A causing problems w/ calcium absorption.

Brandy,

I take 3 Krill oil daily. (Each Krill pill is 300 mg, so 900 mg daily). The astaxanthin is 2 pills daily. (Each pill is 4 mg, so 8 mg daily). I take one fish oil, which is 1120 mg. The Krill EPA should be 150 mg a day, and DHA of 90 a day, for any true effect. The astaxanthin is what I believe to be the true clue to bringing down CRP. I do not think that your daily dose of 1 mg is enough, IMO. I am going to start takingthree a day now, instead of two and see how my next blood work goes. All I know, is that after trying different supplements, astaxanthin is the one that really brought it down significantly. I have had zero side effects from the krill or astaxanthin.

Hope this helps!

Brandy,

I've been taking 2 krill oil a day, 1000 mg, which is 100 epa and 55 dha plus one astazanthan which is 4 mg. I believe that it is the combination of these supplements plus my grain free paleo diet plus avoidance of all other foods indicated by Enterolab that has helped the dry eye. I can't be sure but I no longer am bothered by it and it used to be a daily problem. I get my krill oil and axtathanthin either from Mercola or Vital Choice.

Hi Jean and Mandy,

Huge thanks for your info.

I was taking the Mercola krill at krill 1000 mg, ast 1mg so I doubled the krill to 2000 mg ast 2. I also picked up ast (short for astaxanthan of 5 mg so that will take me up to 7 ast per day.
Things seem to be slowly improving. I think the extra krill is helping my constipation and no side effects so far. Thanks for the info on the other brands. I can check pricing next time.

Jean, I've definitely noticed a diet connection. Eating candy threw me into a dry eye flare then I had relief for about 8 weeks then eating "pop chips" has thrown me into another dry eye flare.
I'm getting the message to stay clear of packaged items. I clearly do better eating paleo.

I also think the HRT is making things worse but I've tried two attempts to get off of HRT and I can't deal with the sleep deprivation. Five days of no sleep makes me feel like a prisoner of war subjected to interrogation at 3:30 am. I'm going to try to find a local provider and test the bioidenticals.

Just wanted to thank you all for your help! Brandy
