Natures Beauty in Winter

I'm just about recovered from the final phase of my jaw reconstruction surgery this past week, a process which was started last year at about this time. Today I had a chance to take out the camera after the blizzard here in New Hampshire and grab a few local pictures I thought I would share. Overall we got about 3 feet (1 meter) of snow

I just though I would share a few of the photos

Here is a picture of Nestlé doing her best to navigate her way about the white stuff. At the very bottom of the picture you can see the bottom of the sliding glass door (just opened). From that point to the actual deck boards below is about 1 foot...Nestlé had a great day of hopping about like a kangaroo




Locally this river almost never freezes, but with the temperatures close to 0 for quite some time this year, it has had a tough time.




At a nearby farm, the ducks are practicing their ice skating talents for an upcoming ice hockey game

Let it snow.... So what do you do with 3 feet of snow when it covers a parking lot??

When I saw the title of your post, I knew you'd be posting more beautiful pictures. I wondered how you survived the storm. I can't believe the ducks are still on the frozen water.

BTW, in Illinois, we call your "river" a creek.

Your right Gloria...here it's really called a brook....creek works as well. I think for it to be a river it would be about 100 feet wide or wider.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Joe. We are hoping for a couple of inches of snow tomorrow night. Hope we get that because we need the moisture. 12 or 13 years ago we received about 2 feet of snow in one storm, a record for us!

Wonderful pictures Joe and luckily we escaped the heavy snow this time and just had about 4 inches. New England surely got hammered. Stay warm and Nestle too!

Joe-What beautiful pictures. Here are some of my horses playing in the 30+" of snow that we received. It was so pretty here yesterday! My mare (the 1st horse here) reared up on her hind legs after I put her out, which is the reason why the lead and halter are still on her!!! They definitely got the "piss and vinegar" out after running through the drifts of snow.

Thanks for sharing the photos. That's the way I prefer to see snow — in someone else's photos. We don't often get snow down here in Central Texas, but it doesn't take much to satisfy my cravings for snow, so I'm happy with the arrangement.

Years ago, we used to work cattle with horses, but that was mostly in warm weather, so that was enjoyable. One time I took a hunting trip in the mountains of West Texas (just above the Big Bend area) on horseback. That was absolutely the coldest my feet have ever been in my life. Those stirrups didn't offer much protection, and I didn't think my feet would ever thaw out again. Cowboy boots lost their status as my favorite footwear after that trip. LOL.

Both of you took beautiful pictures. I lived in Vermont for 5 years and thought it was beautiful, but I have to say life here in California is a lot easier to take :) I still think snow is gorgeous. When we want a dose, we head to Lake Tahoe.

Great pictures Joe and Cathy. Joe I'm glad to hear you are recovering well from your jaw surgery. Here in north central Kansas we are used to snow but the last 2 winters haven't given us much. Highs in the 40s and 50s, even 60s--- it just ain't right. I'm just ready for spring now.

I enjoyed your pictures very much.
