Hi all, One of my goals for the summer was to get off of the PPI Dexilant. In the past I had not been able to get off of it completely before the nausea would return. I think it was just too early.
This time I took 1/2 capsule of Dexilant every morning for 10 days. At night I took 150 mg Zantac, along with 6,000 Vit D3, my multivitamins, Folate and B12 spread out during the day. After 10 days I went a week taking 1/2 capsule Dexilant every other day and I moved my Zantac to mornings. I felt a little GERD in the evenings so I added another 3,000 Vit D3 for a total of 9,000mg. That seemed to work really well.
This week I've continued the vitamins and have had no Dexilant nor am I having any GERD or heartburn at nights. I think I'm finally far enough along that I no longer need it and the H2 antagonist qualities better suit my needs.
So Yay!! I did accomplish something this summer.

Congratulations, and thanks for the update and the details of what worked for you.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Jean, I took Dexilant for 2 years. It's been 2 years ago this month (July 1st to be exact) that I had my BIG flare that prompted medical tests and a diagnosis of LC.
I had stopped Dexilant a couple of times but was not able to keep off of it. I was having nausea then and when I would stop Dexilant the nausea would intensify to the point it was detrimental to the rest of my health and functioning. When I was on Entocort I had to have it. I interpret my nausea and the effectiveness of the Dexilant as proof that my inflammation was not just in my lower GI tract. I believe my inflammation was also in my upper GI tract-- from esophagus on down.
I did not have GERD or take any PPI prior to getting LC and maybe that helped me to be able to discontinue it. I hadn't been taking it for several years like others had.
thanks,
Carol

HI Brandy, most of my travel has been just a few hours away to see friends (girls weekends, college sorority reunion, etc) and to see my daughter play a couple of jazz gigs in Kansas City. Trips are going better. I resent how much planning and cooking I have to do in advance (so my days of being spontaneous are over) but it's the only way to make sure I do well when I'm away from home.
And so far still no GERD or nausea have returned. I really think I am able to stay with the Zantac.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Congratulations Carol - it is so nice to hear good news - thanks for sharing.
