My sister had a stroke this morning

Post by JLH »

and a 3+ hour brain surgery (at NYU) this afternoon to get the clot. Tonight her friend said Jill was awake and talking. Jill lost half her vision in both eyes. Doctor said she'd be able to read but not drive. Her vision may improve.

Tonight, I Googled "stroke" and "gluten" and was led right back here with this thread: http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... sc&start=0

I'm so sorry to hear of your sister's stroke. I hope she has an excellent recovery. The link you shared to Tex's previous post reinforces what we need to do to maintain our health.

Joan,

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I believe she is in good hands at NYU (I had surgery there too). I wish for her a strong and full recovery.

Thanks everyone, especially Tex for that post.

I thought Jill was the only one in the family unaffected by gluten!

Her birthday is Monday. I hope she gets out of ICU by then.

DD#1 could not speak to Jill on the phone this morning but can visit.

Joan,

I'm very sorry to hear that happened, and I sincerely hope that she recovers even better than anticipated.

I'm so sorry about your sister. Having someone so close to you have one is pretty scary. I hope her prognosis is good.

Thanks very much everyone.

My brother got there this afternoon. He said she has aphasia which they hadn't told him. They can't do another MRI until the blood drains or re-absorbs. He said she has good color and some swelling and puffiness that makes her look younger.

We finally got the story from her friend that Jill was picking up her computer from a repair shop and got a severe pain in her head. She tried to use her cell phone to call her friend but realized she couldn't!

Hi Joan,

So very sorry to hear about your sister but it seems that she was lucky to get to the hospital in time and NYU is one of the best. Hope the prognosis is good for her and will keep both of you in my prayers.

Love, Maggie

Hi Joan,
I treated several stroke patients with aphasia over the past several years. Good luck to her and her road to recovery. Get a good, kind Speech-Language Pathologist who she can relate to and feel safe with. You and your family are in my thoughts.
