I have been a registered dental assistant since 1980. Have only seen a few patients that report ill effects from procedures. So sorry ya'll have suffered with dental woes. This is all becoming more evident to me that my mom lost all her teeth in the 1930s. She also was told she had IBD in her elderly yrs with diverticular disease. The pieces of the puzzle are fitting together quite well! Now I know where My genetic link is!

CHRIS... Feelin sorry for ya! You may want to try a waterpik oral irrigation device and use it daily. I am not sure if you could tolerate Listerine in it but at least the water would be flushing out the tissues without you swallowing the bacteria present in your mouth. You should also floss & brush first thing in the morning to rid your mouth of the undisturbed bacteria buildup thru the night. Not sure if the chlorhexidine (Peridex) rinse would help or irritate the MC???

I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn't have stumbled across my strength.

What are you willing to let go of so you can live the life you know you deserve?

Update: I saw my dentist, I had forwarded the two articles Tex linked to above, on Mast Cells and continuing periodontal issues, and best antibiotics.

I'm going to finish the Amoxocillin, as it appears to be working. But next time (hopefully not a next time), she will prescribe Flagyl. I am very nervous about C. Diff, since it looks like I may be off and on antibiotics for ANUG.

Dentist is also looking at putting in antibiotic pill-like pockets, where the gum disease is. This would be a transdermal absorption, localized to the infection sites, and not total systemic antibiotics.

I have a great dentist. She is reading and researching all. I'm very thankful.

In addition, I had Clifford testing (dental materials you react too). My list is small, relatively. But there were a few key items that will help guide future dental treatment. She is following the restrictions.

Lidocaine and other dental substances are histamine reactors. So following as well.

Trying to get access to Wallack forum, haven't heard back from forum admin. Deborah yet. They have a lot of posts about dental and Mast Cells. Looks like a skin oriented Mast Cell forum, but it may help me find a few new helpful things.
