Diet Drinks Don't Cause Weight Gain After All

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Remember the recent research reports that concluded that diet drinks actually cause weight gain for most people who drink them? Well, you can throw all that data in the trash, because brand new "groundbreaking" research has managed to prove, once and for all, that such claims (that diet drinks lead to long-term weight gain) are bogus, and diet drinks actually do cause weight loss. In fact, the researchers proved that compared with people who drink only water, subjects drinking diet drinks lost 44 % more weight. :teacher:
"This study clearly demonstrates that diet beverages can in fact help people lose weight, directly countering myths in recent years that suggest the opposite effect – weight gain," said James O. Hill, Ph.D., executive director of the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and a co-author of the study. "In fact, those who drank diet beverages lost more weight and reported feeling significantly less hungry than those who drank water alone. This reinforces that if you're trying to shed pounds, you can enjoy diet beverages."
Clinical Trial Reaffirms Diet Beverages Play Positive Role in Weight Loss

And the study was continued for 12 whole weeks, so you can be confident that the result wasn't just a short-term effect.

Of course every one of us has already guessed who paid for this research — yep, the American Beverage Association. In case anyone doubts that the whole project was on the up and up, the article conveniently points out that the money was provided by an unrestricted educational grant, so you can be absolutely sure that the university researchers (who know how to play the game when it comes to winning research grants) felt absolutely no pressure at all to influence the outcome of the study in any way (unless they might happen to want to win any research grants in the future).

But wait . . . the researchers failed to report the most significant finding of the entire project. IMO, the research was indeed "groundbreaking", because they convincingly demonstrated that diet drinks contain less calories than water. :millianlaugh:

Obviously these guys must be a bunch of comedians, disguised as researchers, and I do indeed appreciate them providing me with a good laugh today.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I read this on Facebook this morning and had a big laugh. Soft drinks are the worst whether diet or not. I occasionally will have gingerale or 7-up, but as an everyday drink no way anyone should be drinking that stuff.

As a diabetic(2012) I did drink diet gingerale. However last fall I believe that I consumed too much artificial sweetener in treats, coffee&soda. IMO my WD/MC that began Oct.1st. was caused by artificial sweetener overdose. I cut out the Splenda when I began the elimination diet. I have had Norman ever since. I remain free of gluten, raw fruit&veg, dairy.
I will never touch artificial sweetener again!

I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn't have stumbled across my strength.
