Wine

Post by Marcia K »

Good evening. Now that warm weather is finally arrived in PA I would like to enjoy a glass of wine on a deck with my friends. I don't drink often and I haven't touched anything since my LC diagnosis in 9/13. I am afraid to try it, so I thought maybe someone on here could help me out. Thanks!

Hi Marcia,
I don't think wine will give you a problem. In general, I have found white wine sits better with me since my LC diagnosis (but I like red wine better). Maybe you want to look for wine with no added sulfites to start.

Enjoy!

I am not able to have any wine that has added sulphides/sulphites preservatives.

Read the label, if you react to eggs, some wines have traces of eggs.
Wine is high histamine, if you have been reacting to histamines, drink with caution.

As with anything 'new'. Ie something you have not had for a while, it is highly likely you will react the first time you have it. Have small amount to start, see what happens and 24 hrs later, try some more.

Thank you, ladies. I don't have a problem with eggs or histamines so when I work up the nerve I think I'll try a thimbleful.
I'll let you know how it goes!

Enjoy the wine Marcia.
I went out and bought gluten free beer tonight. Gonna try a little every night . My sons 25th birthday party is this weekend and I'd like to enjoy a cold one at the BBQ/bonfire. I plan on bringing my own food and heating it up.

Marcia
I drink a glass of red wine before dinner and with dinner most days. My GI said 2-3 glasses per day is actually good for me. I drink Franzia Chillable Red. I find the more expensive wines tend to have more sulfites and give me a headache.

Hi Marcia,

Enjoy the wine!! I've implemented Mom's wine drinking techniques. (Mom is celiac.) I only have wine on a full stomach. I've only had white wine since MC diagnosis (although I love red.). Mom is only safe with white so I figure I better be safe and I'm scared to try red. I find a little goes a long way. Pre MC I could put away 2-3 glasses of red or white. Now I'm perfectly happy/satisfied with about 1/2 glass of white.

Cheers!

I drink white Zinfandel or Sauvignon blanc without any problems. I can't drink more than one large glass or I get nauseous. Enjoy!!

Thanks, everyone! I prefer white wine so I am definitely going to try it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Cheers!

Wine, is no-go for me. I am so sad. I think histamine, obviously. But even the driest white. I suspect since alcohol is a DAO blocker I do not break down even the smallest levels of histamine that are produced when my Mast cells degrade.

I tried white wine, and vodka (non-grain Vodka) and horrible, horrible Explosive WD:( even tried 2 tablets of Histame (DAO supplement). Didn't really help much.

So sad! Miss having a drink with my husband.

Endicort April 2014 - helping, but still losing.
Pepto-Bismal 9 a day - May 2014
Thankful for support!

Vodka is best for me ( with club soda), but if I'm going to drink some white wine, I take a H-2 antihistamine before hand. Enjoy and let us know how it goes :)

I will let you know how it goes. I think I'll wait until I'm staying at home, just in case.
