Back Home from Surgery
My knee revision surgery was a week ago today and I was released from the hospital on Friday. My recovery is progressing
The MC behaved except for one instance. Either during recovery or the procedure I had a bought of D. Thanks to the drugs, I don't remember them cleaning me up, lol.
The food was excellent in the hospital. You order it similar to room service in a hotel from a menu. The menu was marked for gluten free as well as vegetarian diets. One of my daughter's friends had a baby at this hospital last month. She had told me about the menu being gluten friendly. When I had knee replacement surgeries about ten years ago, the food was ok but everything was mass produced and my choices were very limited.
Except for one injection (I think) my pain medication was non-narcotic. I did not get as constipated and slept better with this surgery. As technology advances, another improvement from last surgery is I am not wearing compression hose. My doctor ordered a device that provides compression therapy on both legs. I am supposed to wear it 23 out of 24 hours so the electronics is my "little friend." This is a link to the device: http://www.mcsmed.com/activecare_sft_2.html
It can be a pain but I would rather have this than the compression hose.
I thought I had written a post when I came home but maybe I did not click the submit button, lol.

Hi Brenda,
Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that the procedure went well (except for the little MC incident), and your recovery seems to be on track.
They used those leg wrap gizmos on me while I was still in the hospital recovering from surgery (back in 2010), but I didn't realize that they now have a portable version that you can use at home. That's neat!
I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Brenda, good to hear you are back home and on the mend. My hospital stay last year was quite stressful so I'm glad things went smooth for you. Hopefully you're reduced mobility doesn't cause any bathroom inconvenience but at least you are home!

Thanks everyone. Deb, I try to stay ahead of the game and not wait too long, lol.
Tex, they used a different contraption on me in the hospital and I have had other versions in the past. What makes this one different to me is it uses compression to work the fluid up your legs. The compression starts near the ankle. The next compression is at the calf and the third is just below the knee. It alternates from one leg to the other. What I had in the hospital was just compression all at once from below the knee to above the ankle. This also has a sensor to adjust the compression where needed.
Evidently the facility where my surgeon did his fellowship used this device. He has since brought it to this practice in Amarillo. The rep that delivered it to the hospital told me not to be alarmed if I received a bill before my insurance has paid, lol.

I'm so glad all went well, Brenda. You're very lucky to have been in a hospital with, not only gluten-free food, but food that was edible. After my spinal fusion, I also had that compression machine on my legs for days. Very cool when you are full of wires and tubes.
I hope things continue to go well. Thanks for the good news.
