Has anybody ever had a problem with squirrels in their walls? I have been hearing chewing under the eaves for the past year...I told my landlord who did nothing. Yesterday, they were obviously in the ceiling over my kitchen....they were making a racket something fierce...(mating season)
I called the landlord and he called the critter control company. They looked at the problem today and the critters are definitely "in" Duh! Anyway, live traps will be set next week...yuck....they will cart off the squirrels. If they are the small native species, they will relocate them, but if they are the non-native variety...well, it's the law that they have to be euthanized. I love all critters....wish they hadn't set-up house in my ceiling.
We don't have squirrels here in Australia (I think) But we do get possums. They can get in your ceiling & make a bit of a ruckus. We have an avocado tree close to the house & they have hi jinks jumping around in there & abseiling down on to our roof. Not giving us a problem at the moment. Our neighbour used to feed one who lived in her ceiling for ages.
Good luck with your problem.

Liz

Hi Liz...we have possums here too. For some reason, they have moved into the city, and unfortunately get hit by cars a lot. We also see raccoons in the neighborhoods, and also dead on the roads.
I'm sure it will turn-out fine, just wish we didn't have to trap the poor critters.

Jill,
They're most likely native. Be sure the landlord plugs up the hole (s) where they got in in the first place or all this will be for naught. My sister has been battling small agressive "red" squirrels for years in her garage/studio. They do cause a lot of damage when they get inside.

I haven't got squirrles, but definately mice. Had hoped Tigs had taken care of the population enough this summer...but now that its cold we hear them running the walls again (they move out in summer). We have a sump hole and an old field stone foundation so its no wonder. Next summer while they are out, we'll put a screen over the sump in an attempt to keep them out! Entertains the cats though.
My sister had some kind of critter in her wall. She starting playing blaring country music when she was gone and the critter left pronto. LOL
What ever it takes, right?
My squirrels are quiet today....probably worn out from all that wild sex they had in my kitchen ceiling the other day. har har.....TTFN...JJ
I only wish they were squirrels...but I have Mice out here in the country. But if they show their heads Buckmaster will attack. He's better than a Cat......no offense to people owned by cats. But Buck is a good mouser for a dog. My little chihuaha barks and backs up...she's timid. Love Oma
Hi Jill. We had a red squirrel in the walls a few years ago. It was annoying and scary as it could have chewed through an electrical line. For 3 days I had to check the "Have a Heart" trap to be sure there was water and food in there in case the squirrel was caught! When it finally was trapped the exterminater (a misnomer since he didn't exterminate at all) drove it 40 miles away and released it. Helpful tip (for you, not the squirrel): caulk all openings around the house and cut down any branches that extend to the roof and overhangs.
Hi Carrie....yup, I'm afraid of their chewing behaviors too. I have watched them...they run on the phones wires that connect to the house...sigh...no way to keep them off. I'm hoping my landlord has a good plan...ah, the joys of renting. Glad it's not totally my headache...
