It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
My son and his wife invited me for dinner, since I will not be arranging birthday party until next Sunday. They had gone out of their way to compose a menu that they thought would be safe for me.
Sushi, maki and sushi rolls (some sort of spring roll with raw fish packed in rice paper) and chocolate pudding/mousse. They sat there smiling and they were so sweet and content that they had found something I could eat. They asked if I could eat the sushi roll paper, and I didn't know, so in order not to disappoint them I had one. They didn't know that the soy sauce has gluten, and I had to break the bad news.
The chocolate pudding I know is full of soy, but they were so happy that they had found a gluten- and dairy free dessert, that I could not let them down.
I did tolerate the food, but there were a lot of rumbling and nausea when I got home. This morning I had pains in my stomach.
It's not easy when people are so nice, they try to learn, and you don't want to take away their joy by letting them know "it's not good enough"...

Just to tell you of a new experience as to "food accidents". This time I'm not sure what caused it, but I suspect the soy sauce with the sushi, and the soy additives in the chocolate mousse.
However, my tummy just rumbled, a little nausea, but no running to the toilet. I was just exhausted and tired, and I slept 12 hours after the birthday dinner.
Hopefully I was lucky this time, and now I know that it doesn't pay to be polite

Just as it is tough for us to adjust to life in MC world, It is even harder for love ones to help. Most people understand gluten free, and there are lots of recipes and products. The complexity comes with doing gluten free, with dairy free and soy free.....
For the 10 years before my diagnosis, my best friends always made my birthday cake for me each year.
Post diagnosis, and being cautious about contamination etc, I started to do my own.
All part of the changes we make in MC world....
