Since the board seems to be rather quiet today, I thought it might be a good time to reflect on the most important issues that I will be dealing with during this brand new year, namely — my New Year's Resolutions for 2016.
In 2016 I resolve to:
1. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to ignore the diet recommendations implied by the USDA Food Pyramid, ChooseMyPlate, or any other pretentious government-backed diet recommendations virtually guaranteed to jeopardize my long-term health.
2. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to eat lots of bacon for breakfast, and sausage and hot dogs, despite the overblown claim by the World Health Organization (WHO) that they can cause cancer. Hell — anything can cause cancer under the right conditions.
3. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to ignore misguided medical advice about cholesterol, and eat at least a couple of eggs for breakfast most days.
4. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to ignore the misguided "expert" advice about salt, and use the appropriate amount of salt on my food so that it tastes just exactly the way I like it.
5. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to base my diet on the so-called "red meats", despite unsubstantiated claims by the WHO that red meats such as beef, pork, veal and lamb are "probably carcinogenic". Probably? What kind of science is that? Must be something new — I don't remember learning about "probable" science back when I was in school.
6. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to ignore misguided government and medical advice that I should avoid fat in my diet, and instead make sure that there is plenty of fat in my diet so that it tastes great, and keeps me healthy.
7. Continue (as I have done most of my life) to avoid jogging, running, or similar activities where statistics show that at least 70 % of participants end up with knee or other joint injuries.
And now that I have posted all these ambitious resolutions, that should make it easier for me to follow them. In fact, I have no doubt that I will be able to honor every one of them, all year long (just as I have always done).
Here's to a happy and healthy 2016, despite all the attempts by the so-called "experts" to ruin our enjoyment of life and our long-term health.
