I decided to order a kit for my husband to be sure he didn't test positive for any of the pathogens in case I decided to actually go through with at-home FMT. I attempted the same process for him and when I entered our health insurance information it was not recognized. It redirected me a private pay option of $399. That is a bit steep for me so I opted to try for their financial hardship assistance that is available for consideration. I didn't think we'd qualify but wanted to give it a try. After several attempts at contacting customer service via email as directed, I didn't receive a response so that was disappointing. I did a few more searches and found a promotional rate for the test at $89. That was doable, so I ordered it and now am awaiting his results.
This week I received and EOB from my insurance company denying the charges for my testing. The bill was $2,900.
How does a reputable company charge $89 out of pocket but $2,900 through insurance? That, to me, seems a bit fraudulent and makes me think less of their company. I know this happens in the health care industry but I was really appalled at those charges.
The $89 was a good deal for screening common pathogens compared to other sites that conduct testing without doctors orders but it is again disappointing. Are they out there for the health of the patient or to make a buck?
