I had a followup yesterday, after some routine blood tests earlier in the week. All went well, and he was happy (because the test results looked good. As is so often the case as we get older'n dirt, he noticed something growing on my forehead that appeared as though it might be precancerous. But when he went to get the cryogenic dispenser (or whatever they call it — it's really just a simple can of freon with a nozzle that's controlled by a trigger), it was missing. Apparently someone left it in another examination room.
So while the staff searched for it, he reminded me that he had previously told me (a few years ago) about his daughter having Crohn's disease, and his son having celiac disease. Of course I remembered, because he had also told me that he had read my book. While we were waiting, he told me that his daughter had a fairly bad case of Chron's that had just about covered her entire colon when she was diagnosed. She was initially on imuran for about 6 months. Somewhere during that time he had read my book, and he suggested that she adopt the GF diet. He had much better luck convincing her than most of us would have had (I guess being a doctor helps). She has now been totally symptom-free for quite a few years, with no medications. She's absolutely sold on the diet. He believes it's a healthier way to eat so the whole family is GF.
Anyway, that was very gratifying to hear.

The takeaway here at least for me is that this forum, YOU, and your book have helped and continue to help many folks with Colitis and also other associated conditions.
That didn't even occur to me, but you're right — this is an example of a doctor taking advice from a patient. I was so focused on the verification that Chohn's disease can be controlled by diet (at least in some cases) that I overlooked the other implications.

Thanks. You know, I have to say that MC brought me years of suffering and many lasting inconveniences. But on the other hand, by forcing me to change my lifestyle, it's allowed me to enjoy much better health and quality of life as I grow older. It's also brought me priceless rewards by giving me the opportunity meet (and hopefully help) so many wonderful people whom I would have never encountered in my journey through life, otherwise. It's all very gratifying.

I think that’s awesome. I have a colonoscopy Aug 1. It’s my first since my Dr diagnosed me in 2014. I’m in the process of looking for my book (you wrote) I’d love to give it to my Dr. If I haven’t found it by tomorrow I think I’ll order one to give him. Hopefully, he’ll read it!!!!!
Great story Tex! Thank you for sharing. It’s gratifying to hear of people with Crohns benefitting from the diet as well (although not surprising). I’m glad your doctor shared their experiences.

Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. You were asking about a test for Crohn's disease in another thread. I doubt that you have Chron's, because you would almost surely be bleeding if you had Chron's.
As long as you are always careful with your diet, it shouldn't matter even if you might have Crohn's, because my doctor says that his daughter has completely controlled her Chron's disease by diet alone.

You are right I'm not surprised by what your Dr did. I'm connecting the dots on so many things since your help along with others too an information here that has been brought to light over the years.
Even if I gain any of my food intolerances back later after my explant tomorrow I will Always be gluten free....I feel it has been a huge helping factor in keeping me mostly gut well.
It makes me smile when a Dr can allow themself to keep learning from someone else
