Colostrum
Hello! I have been reading about bovine colostrum, they said even if you are intolerant to milk you can take it as the amount is so slow. They said it is great because contains a lot of igA and antiinflamatoria power, it sails leaky gut quite amazingly. It says it help gain weight too. Any thoughts?

Hi Ingrid,
Here's a quote from that website:
Besides, it's not going to strengthen any adult's immune system — that's a false claim. Cow's colostrum is specifically developed to boost a baby calf's immune system, and it works great for that. I sometimes used it when we raised a lot of cattle and we had a calf that the cow wouldn't claim, so it didn't get the initial colostrum from her that it should have received. But I sure wouldn't drink that stuff myself. It wouldn't do me any good to drink it, because my immune system is not developing — my immune system was developed 78 years ago. Your immune system was developed 36 years ago.
Again, this is just my opinion, but as someone who reacts to casein, I wouldn't touch that product with a 10-foot pole.

Here's a quote from that website:
There's your answer. Most of us react to casein. All it takes is a molecule or two to make many of us react. I don't see any reason why regulating the production of TH2 cytokines would have anything to do with the production (by our immune system) of IgA antibodies. I have a hunch they're just talking through their hat — an attempt to pretend that they know what they're talking about so that we will trust what they say. I could be wrong, but I'll bet a GF cookie that this product would trigger an even bigger reaction than ordinary milk, if it's made from real colostrum.Q. Does it contain casein?
A. Yes, the casein content of colostrum is the same as that in regular milk. However, the peptides in colostrum temper allergic reactions by regulating the production of TH2 cytokines, and thus preventing the production of IgG antibodies from the casein. While many people with dairy intolerances tolerate colostrum well, it is important to check with your health care provider before taking this product if you have allergy concerns.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
