It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: MCC questions, looking for new G.I. Doctor
It's been a rough year. Just like some folks have long COVID, I feel like I'm joining the ranks of us with long COLITIS! One step forward, two steps
back. Stress is for sure a trigger. I lost three family members the last six months and the last few months have been dealing with terrible insomnia.
Had my annual Dr.s appointment and discussed insomnia and my woes with the Physician's Assistant and she prescribed Lexipro, a SSRI. First day taking
10mg, felt dizzy and WD came back with a vengeance. I want to give it a try to help with insomnia and have a follow up appointment in five weeks. I don't feel depressed, just worry too much. I have tried the Veteran's Affairs CBT-i app, Melatonin, and an occasional Ativan.
Do SSRI's make Colitis worse? At my follow up, I'm going to ask about Cholestyramine.
Does a prescription of Cholestyramine require a revisit with a GI Doctor?

Yes, for most of us.Irma wrote:Do SSRI's make Colitis worse? At my follow up, I'm going to ask about Cholestyramine.
Most GPs are willing to write a prescription for cholestyramine, but to control MC with cholestyramine requires special knowledge. I would suggest two things:Irma wrote:]Does a prescription of Cholestyramine require a revisit with a GI Doctor?
First, read the newsletter published by the Microscopic Colitis Foundation back in January of this year. A copy can be read or downloaded at the following link:
https://www.microscopiccolitisfoundatio ... mplate.pdf
then read a post describing the use of cholestyramine written by Laine. The post can be located by scrolling down to post number nine at the link below:

These two sources will provide you with more information about controlling MC (successfully) by using cholestyramine than you will find anywhere else in the world.
I hope this helps.

2025/2026 update:
Relapsed in 04/2023 still no remission.
I still had symptoms in 2025 and was prescribed a second go with Budesonide and did the long taper. It did not work. And then I tried Cholestyramine which did help somewhat. Then My last G.I. Doctor retired soooo the hunt was on for yet another one. My P.C.P. then recommended a G.I. Doctor that specializes in natural methods to heal I.B.D.s He did an endoscopy which revealed nothing new and had my D level tested. It was 67.4 which is good.
He then explained about Disbiosis and how that can affect different parts of the body. He then gave me samples of Visbiome probiotic, and a full, very full list including organic sheep milk yogurt, organic Lactose free Kefir, L-Glutimine, & MCT oil powder, turkey tail and king trumpet mushroom powders, Maqui powder, MK-7 capsule, Tulsa, Mega Spore, Akkermansia, raw zinc, raw vitamin C, and Bergamot.
Five days into taking all of this I had a bad reaction. Bad cramping, W.D. and my wrists and hands were cramping and frozen. A bad histamine reaction??? Lasted about five minutes. The next day I called the office and the Doctor wasn't in and the receptionist said maybe food poisoning ?
Yeah right. I've had that before years ago and didn't have that happen.....I soldiered on for the next month.
Follow up with my latest G.I. Doctor recently and he said it was the toxins leaving my body. I don't think so.....He then told me to purchase ginger beer and add dandelion tincture. This past month I've had W.D. during the night. That didn't happen while on Cholestyramine. This morning once
again W.D. and then the bad reaction happened again, this time same tingling and cramped wrist and hands and vomited. Has anyone had similar events with "natural" supplements?

Re: MCC questions, looking for new G.I. Doctor
I have one question. Are you still taking all that stuff? If you are, it's no wonder you can't reach remission. I wonder if a perfectly healthy individual would be able to tolerate all those "supplements". You appear to be getting your treatment advice from "snake oil salesmen".

Re: MCC questions, looking for new G.I. Doctor
prior to having MC i used alot of herbals (liquids, powders and tablets)
once MC arrived I could no longer tolerate most herbals
even now with large amount of healing and stability i still can not tolerate them. I cant give you the reason why.
even at the beginning of MC healing, sorting out stable foods was first step and using the basics like Vit D3 and magnesium
only after healing could I expand key nutrients etc
agree with Tex, if you are taking all of those items you are potentially causing more harm than benefit.
MC is different to other IBDs what may work for other IBDs and IBS may not work for MC.
