I’M NO LONGER A NEWBY THOUGH STILL FEELING LIKE A BEGINNER AT 74.I STARTED RECOVERY IN EARLY MAY AFTER RECEIVING MY ENTEROLAB RESULTS SHOWING REACTIVITY TO ALL F00DS…LOWEST IS WHITE POTATO AT ‘2’. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED EARLIER WITH GREAT ADVICE FROM TEX WHO HELPED ME ELIMINATE PROBLEMATIC OTC DRUGSAND REPLACE THEM WITH DOCTOR’S BRAND PRODUCTS HOWEVER AFTER TRYING TO READ ABOUT PROPER DOSAGE, I’D LIKE SOME HELP. I’M CURRENTLY TAKING 4 MAGNESIUM 100MG DAILY AT MEALS, TWO ARE CLOSE IN THE EVENING SO I SLEEP SOUNDLY. THE MAGNESIUM AND ACTIVE B12 REMARKABLY HAVE IMPROVED MY FOOT NEUROPATHYS REDUCING CRAMPS AND DISCOMFORT AT NIGHT. IALSO SOAK MY FEET IN EPSOM INFORMATION IS CONFLICTING I ALSO TAKE ONE D3 5000 MCG. SHOULD I TAKE MORE?
INFORMATION IS CONFLICTING. I ALSO TAKE CALCIUM, FOLATE AND AFTER STOPPING FOSAMAX FOR BONE DENSITY (IT IS JUST BAD) I DISCOVERED THORNE BRAND ADVANCED BONE SUPPORT FOR MY OSTEOP0R0SIS & OSTEOPENIA A TWO CAPSULE DOSE. I AM NOT SEDENTARY. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A SMALLFARM AND WE WORK OUTSIDE IN THE VERY WARM SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO CLIMATE. I NEED TO AVOID DEHYDRATION AND FOUND THE RECIPE IN THE FORUM SUPPORT COLUMN. IT’S MADE WITH SALT AND BAKING SODA AND I DRINK IT DAILY. I USE KOSHER SALT BECAUSE MY IODIZED SALT USES FERROCYANIDE AS AN ANTI CAKING AGENT!!!!
ON THE TOPIC OF WHAT I DRINK DAILY, I MAKE A SMALL MUG OF DECAF WITH ORGANIC BEANS.
IT DOES NOT TRIGGER A BATHROOM VISIT AFTER CONSUMING.
LATER I REMOVE THE GREEN TEA LEAVES FROM FOUR BAGS AND STEEP THEM IN A FOUR CUP MEASURE TO DRINK DURING THE DAY.
.
I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MC IN MY MID 50’S AND AGAIN LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WITH
COLLAGENOUS MC. MY PRIMARY MEAT, FOR MEALS AND SNACKS IS ORGANIC GROUND TURKEY WITH SALT AND OLIVE OIL ALONG WITH A SMALL SERVING OF EITHER GREEN BEANS, ZUCCHINI,YAM, (ALL WELL COOKED)OR A SMALL SERVING OF AVOCADO. OTHER MEATS CAN BE A
STRUGGLE. I CAN FIND LAMB READILY, SHRIMP, VENISON (TOUGH AND GRIZZLY), YAK AND ELK ARE DELICIOUS AND CAN BE ORDERED ON LINE. I’M TRYING TO FOCUS ON PROTEIN SINCE I HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO.
MY DIARRHEA IS MOSTLY POOP-SOUP WATERY AND ALWAYS GOLD ORANGE COLORED. IS THAT BILE? ON OCCASION AFTER THE BIG STUFF THERE ARE SMALL BITS OF STOOL I CALL CONFETTI.
IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME AND NEVER CHANGES.
ALSO, SINCE I HAD A SMALL PIECE OF BREAD FOR THE STOOL ANALYSIS, I WON’T BE CLEAN OF GLUTEN UNTIL THE END OF JULY . IS THAT MY PROBLEM?
ANOTHER QUESTION: WHAT ABOUT ORGANIC SUNFLOWER BUTTER. IT HAS NO SALT, NO SUGAR,
JUST GROUND SUNFLOWER SEEDS. IS THIS A PROBLEM?
I APOLOGIZE FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS POST. I READ ALL OF THE MC SUPPORT POSTS ON THE FORUM, TRYING TO HELP MYSELF IMPROVE. I READ AND SOMETIMES PRINT TEX’S NEWSLETTERS AND BLOG POSTS SO I CAN SCRIBBLE NOTES ON THEM AS I LEARN.
BLESS YOU ALL FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND ENTHUSIASM. I WOULD BE IN THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR WITHOUT YOUR WISDOM. THANK YOU WAYNE FOR ALL OF YOUR RESEARCH AND DEEP DIVES INTO ALL WE NEED TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND. BARBARA

Re: MORE QUESTIONS FR0MA BEGINNER
Hello Barbara,
That's probably enough vitamin D, unless you're having watery diarrhea many times per day. If you've only been avoiding gluten since early May, you may just need more time to get the gluten out of your system. If you've been reacting for over 20 years, it may take a while for your digestive system to settle down, because it may have to relearn how to function normally, as the inflammation fades away.
Organic sunflower butter should be safe, as long as there are no additives that cause us to react.
Osteoporosis can't be reversed, but vitamin D will allow the calcium in your diet to be properly absorbed into the bloodstream, and the magnesium will enhance the functioning of insulin so that it will carry the calcium In your diet to the cells in your bones, where it's needed, so that no further osteoporosis damage should occur.
The color of our stool is determined by the length of time it remains in our colon, and the relatively rapid motility associated with diarrhea does not allow stool to complete the normal color change. The orange color is probably just a sign of rapid transit. However, a "golden" color (especially if it leans toward yellow) can be a sign of bile acid malabsorption (BAM). In case you aren't able to see significant improvement within a couple more weeks, It might be a good idea to ask your Dr. for a prescription for cholestyramine. But before doing that, I would wait a few more weeks to allow the diet changes to work.
As you may recall, after reading our newsletter describing how intestinal damage causes epigenetic changes to stem cells, the intestines heal very slowly, so we have to allow for more healing time than we would normally expect, when trying to put our MC into remission. But patience and perseverance pays off, and the diet changes will almost always bring remission, if we give them a chance, and don't give up too soon.
I hope this helps,
Tex

Re: MORE QUESTIONS FR0MA BEGINNER
Thank you Tex. I assume the four Mg tablets I’m taking daily are appropriate. Do you have a cholestyramine brand you can recommend for MC patients that doesn’t have sugar, flavorings, and coloring all of which gave me problems when I took Cholestyramine a couple of years ago?
I want to apologize for the “All Caps” font in my post. Thinking about what to ask is emotional and drains my brain. I finally solved the problem by finding MY Caps lock key on my laptop. Last night I was looking for it on the screen. Sigh, Barbara

Please read the following thread, as it describes the current situation with the most effective brand of cholestyramine (Sandoz):

Re: MORE QUESTIONS FR0MA BEGINNER
I'll just hop in here and say that I tried a few generic brands of cholestyramine before deciding Epic (then Sandoz) was the one that worked for me. I'm sorry that I don't remember all of them other than Par and another one that started with a Z or X!!! I believe that one was from India. I hate to say this but I think maybe some folks just either don't take enough of it or don't take it long enough initially to even figure out if they really would benefit from cholestyramine. So maybe they think it's the brand when in fact it's just the dosage/time of trial. My thoughts-
That said...for WHATEVER REASON, most of us do better with Epic brand. And it's a generic of Questran so my work health insurance will always cover it. I've never been able to get it from the mail order pharmacies that are associated with my insurance as they tell me they have no control over what generic brand they get. Same with Amazon.
Tex and the old timers on this site always preach time and patience with dietary changes. I feel like you need the same attitude with cholestyramine as things don't miraculously get significantly better overnight people!!! You still have the same inflammation that needs to settle down! Honestly, I just had a real slow slow, slow improvement in everything. BUT!!! Cholestyramine wasn't the end all be all for me-that happened when I added Betaine HCl with meals. Lots of trial and error....lots of error honestly. But this forum and ME were all I had as all the stuff/testing the docs were doing wasn't helping at all.
Hope this helps-
Laine
