Hello all,
I'm curious if anyone has experience and can share their thoughts on working with integrative or functional medicine physicians in addressing their LC/MC?
As someone who works in the medical field myself, I would prefer not to pursue a route that would only complicate matters after I've worked diligently to get into remission through diet alone (i.e. unnecessary testing, drugs, therapies, etc...). But I feel that with the right medical practitioner, I could discover more about my current health condition and hopefully find ways to holistically address the underlying causes. If you have any personal experience in this area or have read elsewhere on the board, I would really appreciate hearing from you!
Thank you,
Leena

Re: Integrative/Functional medicine?
hi there
I was using functional medicine long before my MC diagnosis and have used it regularly since.
My opinion depending on approach (acupuncture, functional Chiro, etc) it doesn't 'cure' everything, what it does is 'balance' things
ie calms the immune system, optimises the bodies ability to heal.
They treat the body in stages - I use the spinning plates analogy putting energy gradually into various things to achieve the balance
learnings
- not all functional practitioners are good.
- MC is different to Crohns and UC. be cautious of herbs/vitamins / contoxions that claim to cure IBD's
I have written many replies and posts about this over the past 15 years on the forum so if you search for the word functional you will see these replies etc
There is an area of the forum with some older posts

In my 25 years of using these treatments I have two exceptional practitioners
one was a acupuncturist who used Japanese acupuncture more so than Chinese. His knowledge of immune/inflammation was fantastic
the other was a functional Chiro who had extensive knowledge on cell health, gut health, methylation cycle, hormones.
I went to them in a chronic state with multiple things flaring, after extensive period of stress (job loss, moving interstate etc)
over a period of 2 years we managed to calm immune, balanced hormones, balance methylation cycle, work on mental and emotional aspects and I went from being on temporary disability and unable to work to, within 2 years able to work part time, and then another 2 years later able to resume full time work.
We fixed main deficiencies and balanced methylation cycle the other aspect of the process for the gut was clearing bacteria, virus, micro toxins.
Also in this time I had various molers removed that had previously had root canal. this helped my gut health and hormones amazingly
Gut health starts in the mouth, if we have excess bacterial/ issues with our teeth, every time we eat, drink we are taking those nasties into the gut.
A good start for the basis of functional chiropractic is the book by the Blue Wiggle Anthony Field - How I got my wiggle back.
An American functional Chiro treated him. (it was this book that got me researching functional chiropractors)
there are lots of things you can do yourself
Tex has just written an article about Vagus Nerve (not sure if it has been published on the Microscopic Foundation site yet)
and if you read through blogs /articles there are lots of things that can assist
The bulletproof concepts by Dave Asprey about low toxin lifestyle etc
long story short
it is not a magic potion - there is no one size fits all approach to MC/ Auto Immune
if you put the time and effort in via the right practitioner it can assist greatly

Hi Leena,
The article Gabes mentioned that I finished a few days ago, titled "Histamine and the Vegas Nerve" hasn't been scheduled for publication, yet, but if you would like to have a copy, just let me know, and I can email you a copy.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: Integrative/Functional medicine?
Gabes - Apologies for the delay in responding. I read your message and got carried away with life and forgot to respond! Thank you for the wealth of info and knowledge. I will keep doing my research before pursuing functional medicine practitioners. I am hoping to make more progress on my own first before investing the time/money into seeking out and working with a professional. Can I ask in general which deficiencies you corrected with the help of your practitioners? And how they helped you clear the pathogens you discussed?
Tex - If you still have that article available, feel free to PM me or email me! Sounds very interesting.
