STill alive + peroxide issue

well, this shepard is,as I said 2 and it is almost like the first shepard that they had---vicious--
I had called SIL--to tell/ask about shots---and U know what she said to me *So sue me*!!!!!!

Wayne I believe it was more of a CLAWING---and thank goodness I had on a double set of long sleeved tops---
No holes in the tops --so I dont think he reached the skin--with his mouth

PEROXIDE!! no, I didnt hear that??? so what does one use to clean a wound etc-.....grrrrrrrrrrrr---Im so tired of all these good for U---not good for --then back to good---
And now this---

ya know what??? I am fed up with all the dos and donts in the medical issues that I read,here and there!!
First its good for U---then NOT---then after megga studies it is GOOD---wish they would make up their friggen minds--

I am missing a bit of flesh----and now my arm is turning the prettiest rainbow of colors----

and yes, I am in sorta/kinda a rotten mood---could U tell?

PS. and Mr. Louie WAS to go for his stress test this morning---BUT he forgot and took a med. last night that was NOT to be taken cus that pill and the nucK. stuff dont MIX!!!

Well, if that's your SIL's attitude, you certainly could sue her. I'm not suggesting that you do that, but she definitely makes it tempting, doesn't she. I'm not familiar with NY laws, but in most states, you could sue her and win.

She knew the dog was vicious--she should have restrained him. If you're planning to sue, though, you will probably need medical records and photos for evidence.

I think the main concern with peroxide is in cleaning deep wounds on a daily basis. The "experts" recommend using soap and water on shallow wounds, (preferably a soap without all sorts of additives such as deodorants and moisturizers), or a saline solution on deeper wounds. Commercial anti-bacterial cleansers such as chlorhexidine solution, (usually found in your local pharmacy under the brand name Hibiclens Chlorhexidine Gluconate), can be used, but are normally not necessary. (This is what surgeons scrub with before performing surgery).

If you use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, they recommend that you dilute it about 50%, and don't use it for deep wounds.

Yep, the flip-flops that go on with medical recommendations are frustrating, to say the least. When we're young, (and gullible), we think that all issues are either right or wrong, and if they're right, they stay right forever, and if they're wrong, they will always be wrong. As we get older, though, we discover that virtually nothing is chiseled in stone. After a few discoveries such as this, along with finding out the truth about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, it's a wonder that any of us still have a shread of sanity remaining. LOL.

For what it is worth.. my son was bitten by a dog when he was little.. while he was at a friend's house.. the mother there cleaned it with peroxide and put aloe on it so it wouldn't scar.... LOL was just a few hole marks. She also called the owner of the dog and they said the dog had had his shots so everything was ok.. Hardly the type of medical advice one would get today tho...:)

If you aren't sure about whether the dog has had shots you might be able to call the animal shelter folks and see who regulates that.. and how to find out... they also might pick the dog up... I don't see any of this making the family relationship better tho that is for sure....

Yes dogs ought to be registered (licensed) and have a record of rabies shots on file with someone...town, local vet, etc.

Sorry to hear of your bite! I missed the no-no on peroxide. Thats what we used to use at the animal hospital when I worked there 20 years ago (almost). I recently used it on a bite wound of Tiggers and he healed up nicely...his fur has even finally grown back.
