Hi, my dear Potty Friends

I am really sorry for not posting for a while , though I have missed you all.

How are you? I hope you are fine. I have been listening to some bad weather news, Tornadoes, floodings... I hope you are safe and healthy.


Ok. How can I say...?
I had a bad time... Furthermore, my mother-in-law is ill and deeply depressed. We have been visiting her for a while & caring. She is suffering from syncopes and leg pain (unable to walk)...


Since my problems to breath (chest pain) in August 2005, I have been going from one doctor to another... I am feeling hopeless... Some wonder if I have Lupus, but then deny it as nothing confirms it. Other assure I must have a Thyroid disease (Graves= Hyperthyroidism)... But, up to now, blood test are negative, except some proteins...
Hyperthyroidism is a theory that my husband and me suspect because I have most of the symptoms. My GP even said he agreed but that it would be difficult to find because many antigens to Thyroids are unknown and therefore, difficult to detect.

I am sure there must be someway to demonstrate it, different to the normal blood tests. I had a full blood test to check: negative. But, what about antigens? What if it is a immune reaction to the thyroid?

Does anyone had the same experience?
What can I do?
After months waiting for an app., I will finally see the specialist (Internist) on Tuesday, the 23rd. What should I tell her?

Hi Tessa,

Welcome back. I'm sorry to see that your doctors still haven't discovered the reason for your problem. You've been having to deal with that problem for a long time now. I'm also sorry that your mother-in-law is ill.

I think that you and your husband are correct--it does seem that the problem could be connected with your thyroid, if your heart and lungs have been checked out and found to be ok. If your heart rate is higher than it should be, say in the nineties or over a hundred, it might be hyperthyroidism, (an overactive thyroid). If your heart rate is lower than normal, it would be more likely to be due to hypothyroidism, (an underactive thyroid). I hope that the specialist you see on the 23rd can help you.

Tessa, how frustrating! I really symphatize with your predicament. I'm so sorry it's such a struggle for you, but please don't lose heart. There is an answer out there for you.

Nearly a year has passed since the problem with gluten & casein was detected and I started the GF diet with high success. I felt relief soon and was feeling much better. Despiteful, thyroid seems to be an added problem...

Thank you for being so kind about my mother´s in law illness.

Well, you see, among several other symptoms, I haven´t recovered weight, though I am eating a lot more and are feeling nearly constantly hungry. I am irritated when feeling hungry and being unable to eat, etc.
I would say it is hyperthiroidism...

I will see the Internist Barbara, have a lot of hope, but... We´ll see at the end. She was not very helpful the first time I went there in January, though she asked for several tests to carry out. Now that I have them, let´s see what she has to say....

It is SO good to hear from you again, but I am sorry to learn that you still have not found the cause for your non-MC symptoms. This is indeed a puzzle ????????????????? Are you feeling gradually better over time or is it the same/worse? I wish I had a magic wand to wave to make you better immediately. What are the main symptoms you are having?

Did you see your birthday greetings from several weeks ago? If not, look at the top of the message board.

I still have not yet been able to translate your book. My friend who is fluent in Spanish that I told you about has been very busy (she is expecting her first grandchild) - she taeches all day and in night-school too. Maybe I'll have to sign up for some Spanish classes! I am so anxious to read it!

Hang in there - it HAS to get better, right? I'm happy to hear that the MC is in good control with diet.

It is nice to read a post from you again. I really missed it.

Well, I am perfect with regard to my diet related to my intolerance to gluten and dairy. But this "puzzle", as you mention it, is not going better.
You remember my chest pain last August 2005, don´t you? That is much better, sometimes a little discomfort (for instance, when deep breathing). I am still taking 1 Inyesprin/a day. I´ve tried to cut the 3 a day I was taking, but it has been impossible to stop it all.

What are the main symptoms you are having?

I would say, Thyroid pain & swelling on both sides of the neck, discomfort on the front base of the neck, feel hungry most part of the time = increased food intake (and irritated, nervous, with a staring gaze and/or dizzy if not eating), red eyes, excessive tearing and discomfort in both eyes, light sensitivity, sometimes (when hungry) blurry vision, eyelids inflammation, sometimes I feel reduced eye movement, not recovering weight (even though I am eating much more), tremor in hands & legs when hungry, decreased concentration, muscle weakness, warm most skin, hair loss, heat intolerance, ...

Sometimes I feel worse, but most time, if I am eating a lot... I am able to control it... Just If I exercise more or work harder: I feel weak, tired and need to eat to feel better...
As you see, most symptoms are pretty clear.

You certainly do have almost all the sysmptom. If your doctors can't come up with a diagnosis, their licenses should be taken away, and they should be sent back to medical school.

I assume you have been checked for the possibility of hypoglycemia, (low blood sugar). I don't believe that hypoglycemia normally causes shortness of breath, but it can certainly cause the other symptoms, and not everyone reacts the same way.

I have to see the Internist on the 23rd. She has a blood test result, a Chest X-Ray (?) and some heart tests... It took so long for her to give an app. that all these tests were done end 2005, first month of 2006...

BTW I forgot telling you, my uncle has problems with Thyroids... And my mother had Hyperthyroidism when she was young (but according to her description, it vanished after she got pregnant)...
