Antibiotic allergies

Well I can add Alprim to the list of stuff that I am allergic to now. Penicillin is definately out & will be running out of antibiotics that I can take soon.
Took the Alprim on & off for ages, just like the Penicillin, and then whhooomp, last night about 1/2 hour after taking the third dose of this course I had trouble breathing & broke out in a rash. Got on to the Ventolin & took an antihistamine tablet but feel pretty blah this morning & red splotchy rash still there. Doc said to take things easy today & take another antihystamine tonight & call her tomorrow. She said I may have to go into hospital to have antibiotic intervenously. Have to call the specialist about it & tell him what happened as well. Really do not know what will go wrong next.

Sorry to hear another substance is out the window for you. Will she put you on something else once you get over the allergic reaction? I can take Z-pak and also erythromycin. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Kathy. I just called the Urologist & he is in theatre but his secretary said she would give him the message this morning. Just have to wait & see what he says.

Wow, Liz. When it rains it seems to pour sometimes. Hope you are lots better and also hope you don't have to go into the hospital to receive a med to help you.

Hi Liz,

What I did after I had one to many allergic reactions to antibiotics, was to see an allergist, and get the subcutaneous injections. Turned out that in the IV form, at the end of the test time, I wasn't positive, although one looked as though it would turn positive in the early stages, then didn't.

Sooo, all I know to do now is just avoid the particular oral med -- the Cedax that I had the last incident with (really swollen lips -- weird), but it would probably be safe to have the IV forms or other cephalosporins, but one never knows.

A doc told me that she'd had several other patients who'd had weird reactions to meds like that about the time the autoimmune stuff started showing up. Strange, isn't it?

As you might expect, I'm wondering if my tendency to have these reactions will be less now that I'm off the food allergens. Not anxious to test this theory, however. Ha!
