Barbara,

Thanks for the data. Yep, you appear to have hyperthyroidism, all right. Your most recent test results are the same as they were almost a year ago. I don't understand why your doctors have "wasted" almost a whole year, and still haven't improved those numbers.

That's interesting about canceling the colonoscopy.

Hope you're sawing logs like a lumberjack, by now. Pleasant dreams.

Hi Barbara....wheeeew! you have a lot of stuff going on. I hope things take an upswing for you very soon.

Funny, I have most of the symptoms you have talked about but my thyroid tests always come out good. My doctor tells me I just need more exercize. I ask, how can you excercize when you hardly feel like getting out of bed? Maybe I should just push it and see what happens.

Good luck, sweet lady. Love, Carol

Hiya Sis,

Thanks for the update - I was waiting to hear the results. Well, it's a bummer that there is an identified problem, but it's GOOD that now you can get some treatment and RELIEF. I know it's scary, but it's less scary to know exactly what it is, doncha think? And always good to know that it's something treatable. And you get to delay the colonoscopy! HAH!

What's the next step and when?

Love,

Polly

What is the difference in hypothyroidism and thyroid disease? I have hypothyroidism and want to take some sinus medication. It says don't take if you have thyroid disease.

Hi Marlina,
First I want to welcome you to our "online family" and I hope you will find the site beneficial to you.

Thyroid Disease - I believe that includes both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid conditions. I am hypothyroid also, as are others on this board. However, I am not familiar with meds you shouldn't take with the disease. Guess I'd better start paying closer attention. :???:

I would go ahead and try to find some info on it before posting this but my computer is extremely old and very "touchy". I'm lucky when I can post at all. If I try to "overexert" the thing (which could happen with almost anything) it freezes up on me.

I am assuming you also have some kind of Microscopic Colitis. How are you doing with that?

Hi Marlina,

Welcome to our internet family. Shirley is quite correct, of course - thyroid disease is any disease that causes the thyroid gland to produce either too much, or too little, thyroid hormone. These problems are very common among people who have microscopic colitis - we are eight times as likely to have thyroid issues, when compared with the general population.

Without knowing what medication you are considering, it is difficult to make any judgment about drug interactions. If you are hypothyroid, then certain substances can affect the effectiveness of the hormone supplement that you are taking. Soy, for example can adversely affect it, so you should never take a thyroid hormone supplement, and any food or other product that contains soy, at the same time. They should be taken several hours apart. Certain medications, have an even greater effect.

If the medication that you are considering is the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, for example, (or one of the other floroquinilones), then you should take them at least 6 hours apart, because oral ciprofloxacin interacts with levothyroxine, if they are taken together. IOW, the ciprofloxacin apparently interferes with the absorption of the levothyroxine.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful, but without more details, I can only make guesses about your question. All medications are different, and they all have their own unique problems and side effects.

Again, welcome to our board.
