I know that news like that can be very upsetting, but Lou's right - if they thought that you were in any real danger, they would find a way to get those additional tests done "right now".
In fact, it's very common for thyroid nodules to increase in size, but that doesn't seem to have any significant correlation with malignancy, according to statistics. Actually, the odds are almost overwhelming that you have nothing to worry about. Read this report about a research project, which describes exactly what you are dealing with:

As you can see, according to this research report, they studied 330 nodules that had increased in size, but they found only one that was malignant. That's almost an insignificant number, as far as most medical odds are concerned. It doesn't get much better than that.
