Question???
What are the most accurate thyroid tests?
Does anybody here have hyperthyroid and what were your symptoms before being correctly diagnosed?

hiya Musketeer--yes I have HYPER---was diagnosed about 1 and 1/2 ago--
I was xtremley fatigued----shedding hair---and Dee---sometimes U can Xperience symptons of both----
My GP's visit detected the *nodules while Xamining around throat area---and from there I had to go ENT--who took biopsies---then off to an ENDO---who had me take a *nuke* MRI--which was interesting and she also did biopsies---and now am on meds for that--
Goggle it and U will see all the symptons
Thats what we thought caused my loss of smell and taste---
Being my numbers have been regular since the usage of meds----ENDO wants me to stop meds---cus sometimes the thyroid will stay level---but I said NO WAY----
I am going to see her next week and it will be discussion time--
Galahad is HYPER too---I believe

Dee,
Actually, I've got hypothyroidism, but Dee, you definitely have a lot of symptoms that would correlate with hyperthyroidism. I would bet a GF cookie that you have it.
If I were in your shoes, I would ask my doc to test, (at least), TSH, (which stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), free T3, and free T4. It might also be good to know whether you have Grave's disease, (autoimmune-related hyperthyroidism). All of that information can be obtained from simple blood tests, though your local lab will probably have to ship a sample to another lab, (I think most go to a lab in California), to get the antibody test, (for Grave's disease). You can certainly skip the Grave's test for the present, but if your doc says that your other test results are negative, be sure to get a copy of the test results, because a lot of doctors don't know how to correctly diagnose thyroid problems, due the wide TSH range that most labs use. With your symptoms, I would be very, very surprised if you do not have a thyroid hormone issue.

Tex

Hi Babsey,
Well, obviously you can't. LOL. What happens is that you can have either of those symptoms, (no one has all of them), of course. IOW, hyperthyroidism can cause either C or D, (but not both at the same time, of course, and usually not both at any time, for any given patient), or a patient might have neither C nor D.
Thyroid issues can cause many, many symptoms, but most people only have a handful of symptoms. In a way, it's sorta like MC, in that everyone with hyperthyroidism is different, but the treatment options are basically the same, regardless of symptoms. Likewise, everyone with hypothyroidism has different symptoms, but the treatment is the same.
With MC, though, you can indeed have both C and D, but again, not at the same time - what happens is they alternate, and there are a fair number of members who have alternating D and C, myself included.

That sense of humor!!!
They do have this little, standing skeleton in one of the examining rooms that they outfit with a Halloween costume every year.
If I'm put in that specific room, I always comment that it looks like me!!!
