Gluten Free, Casein Free, Lactose free Meds-- do they exist?

Post by thedell19 »

My Dr just prescribed me 20 mg of Citalopram or the generic form of Celexa. Well both the generic and patented drugs are gluten free- so yay- however, they all contain some form of lactose. I read somewhere that they dont separate the casein from the lactose which is probably why the Asacol made me sicker. So its not like I can just take a lactose pill b/c I would still be getting the casein.

Granted I am on Ativan and Wellbutrin right now and they both dont have lactose but just about every other anti depressant contains either lactose or gluten.

I know I can go to a compounding pharmacy to get them to make it BUT it will cost a pretty penny that is for sure!

Hoestly I dont know why we are still going the SSRI route when the other two that I have tried have caused stomach upset and D- not to metion other side effects. When doing research on Citalopram there is a "rare" instance of colitis in patients taking 20-60 mgs. Granted yeah it is rare- but isnt colitis kinda rare? So it could be that those "Rare" findings are from people who already have or have a greater chance of developing colitis than a regular person... and I use the word regular for a few meanings here!

Paxil didnt contain lactose I didnt think but gave me the D, as did Zoloft but i didnt check to see of the Zoloft had lactose or not. i mean there has got to be something out there right?
Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast

Hey Barb

I think the increase in da poop makes me have more anxiety and depression than when I have the normals. So having an anti anxiety med that makes me have more anxiety kinda defeats the prurpose I guess.

So then you dont take any anti anxiety or depression meds anymore?

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! We are having a packed house this year with Gin'a sister, who goes to school in Prescott AZ, and my parents from MD. So thats me, Gina, Mom, Dad, and Christa, not to mention the two crazy 70 lb furballs running around.
