I thought i would start taking omega 3 capsules since ive been reading that this is beneficial to those of us with colitis... any one been taking them???
Yep, I've been taking flax seed oil capsules ever since my symptoms got severe, (about 8 years ago), and I've been taking fish oil capsules for the past four or five years.

Have not been around much. Swamped with work. A good thing in this economy. Good because i am well enough to do it .
Have been using cod-liver Oil for about four years.
After reading about omega 3 several years ago realized that my diet was way to high in omega 6 oils in the years before MC raised its ugly head.
I rarely if ever have symptoms anymore and among many other things I changed I feel that increasing omega 3 oils either by supplement or food have made an enormous difference.
Years ago my test results from Entero Labs showed a fecal fat score of 320 when it should be below 300. Clearly I was not absorbing fats well. Decided that in the healing process that I might best present my body with healthier fats than I had in the past. When my gut healed I might just as well be absorbing something good. With so many decisions to make with MC this, I feel , was one of my better ones
The most remarkable change has been in my skin. Used to have horribly dry skin. Particularly my hands. I had always assumed it was because so many of the woods that I work with are very acid. Along with living in the dry, high desert. Horrible splits in my fingers and heals that would wake me up at night with pain.
It makes me laugh to say that those problems are all part of the past. My hands and feet look like they did 30 years ago. Have not had a finger split in years.
I have no doubt that it is a combination of diet, that's how i control my symptoms, resulting in better absorption of fats and oils and then eating more omega 3 oils along with foods that contain many of the other oil soluble vitamins.
I really hope that this can help you as much as it has me.
Love
Matthew
P.S. It halloween . Not often I have five princesses at my door. :-)
Here are some suggestions for good natural sources of omega 3 fatty acids, and some more info in general. There's a much longer list of food sources toward the bottom of the page:
As I recall, hemp seed and hemp milk are also good sources. Also butternuts, kiwifruit, chia. Note that grain-fed beef has a omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 4:1, whereas grass-fed beef has a omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 2:1, making grass-fed beef a much better source of omega 3, (twice as good).

You mean regarding D? It's flax seed, (not the oil), that can cause D, (because it's a source of fiber mucilage). I take flax seed oil. I suppose if I ingested enough of it, it might, but I only take one capsule per day.

Sure. These are 1000 mg, (IOW, 1 gram). The ones I'm using right now are in a "Spring Valley" brand bottle, (manufactured by Nature's Bounty, Inc.). The label shows 1 g, (1,000 mg), organic flaxseed oil, which typically contains:
450 mg Alpha-Linolenic Acid, (which is Omega-3)
110 mg Linoleic Acid, (which is Omega-6)
110 mg Oleic Acid, (which is Omega-9)
50 mg Other Fatty Acids
Furthermore, it says:
No Gluten, No Yeast, No Wheat, No Milk Or Milk Derivatives, No Lactose, No Sugar, No Preservatives, No Soy, No Artificial Flavor, No Sodium, (less than 5 mg per serving), No Chemical Solvents
Other ingredients:
Gelatin, Glycerin, Caramel color
The directions recommend one per day, for adults.
I try to buy fresh stuff, and I keep it in the refrigerator, because I think I read somewhere that flax seed oil deteriorates rapidly, (loses it's strength), with age, especially with heat, once it's extracted from the seed.

The flaxseed oil works just as well as restasis ever did for me, but my dry eye is so bad that they put in tear duct plugs about a year ago. I started Rick on it to try and boost his levels a bit, figured it wouldn't hurt...
Keaton is great, about to turn 5 months, here is a recent pic of the Wildman....
