The last time I got a flu shot I had quite a bad reaction- haven't had it since and I seem to muddle through the flu seasons okay- I contribute a large part of that to a healthy diet.
There's an interesting study that just came out about the flu shot and conversations about it on this blog...and there's that vitamin D thing again!

Joanna,
Thanks for posting that link. After reading some of the comments there, they'd have to run me down and put me in a headlock to give me a shot, now.
This remark bothers me more than anything else there:

We sure don't need that. I agree with the advice about vitamin D - I think it's a lot better than a flu shot. Finally, the natural health community understands that the immune system is actually weakened each time you get a vaccine, so your susceptibility to a host of other illnesses - viral to autoimmune to cancer -- is increased slightly with each vaccine.

Joanna,
This a good article - it summarizes many of the most recent findings about flu shots.
Just for the record, I am now taking (and plan to take thru the winter) 3000 units of vitamin D3 per day. When the flu comes to town, I will take 5000 mg a day. Some researchers even go so far as to say that taking vitamin D totally prevents the flu.
I hope we all avoid the flu this winter, by whatever means.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
I have rec'd one every since I got sick and I have not had the flu since... sure I felt a little under the weather for a day or so but nothing to keep me off of my feet like the flu would.
Our immune systems are so shot as it is (esp people taking roids or immuno suppressants) that gettng a shot will prob be more beneficial than harm. Say you dont get one, get the flu, immune system is not as good as before and you end up getting even sicker with the big P... That is just my reasoning behind getting a shot.

I got my flu shot on Friday while I was getting my bloodwork done.
I have gotten one every year for a long time because I worked around so many adults and children.
No side effects ever.
Only one discomfort and that was a sore left upper arm..
Polly, I'm up to 3,000 IU's of vitamin D now too and plan to continue that dose
So now, it's 1,200 mg of calcium, 3,000 IU's of vitamin D, 1,200 flaxseed oil and now my PCP wants me to take a vitamin because my B-12 was a little low.
What opinions do others have as far as the B-12 and folic acid?? Take a vitamin with those in it or buy the sublingual and folic acid separately????? Just curious!!!
Love

Dee,
I don't take B-12 very often, any more, (now that my malabsorption problem seems to be gone), but I always used a sublingual tablet that had both B-12 and folic acid. I'm thinking it contained 1000 IU of B-12, and 400 IU of folic acid.
