Old Boards Seem To Be Gone
Hi to all the Old Timers,
Was just trying to link back to the old board and it seems that my virus software here at work had to work overtime. I had 4 failure notices and could not link back in. Also another board started right after we left there has no links any more. Seems like we have weathered the storm and have by far, the most reliabale and informatiave board on the net. I honestly could not find a decent link out there for information and ones I thought would be were just pop up box city.
So thankful for what we have here and the family we are.
Love, Maggie

I've been trying to access it for months. I wasn't able to get past the main page. It's too bad it's not available because I thought it had a little different perspective. The feeling there was you were all in it together and were learning as you went. It was interesting to read about the struggles veteran members went through as they were trying to achieve remission.
Before I found this site, I read the posts there for days on end and thought that it had become a ghost town, which it had. After I found this site, I still went back and read about some of your struggles. I think that's something that is missing from this site to a degree. Newbies get the feeling that others have "arrived" and are in remission. We don't hear about the day to day struggles that people are having as much as was posted on the old site. I suppose that's one of the reasons I've been so forthright in writing about my struggles. I think it's important for newbies to see that this isn't a slam-dunk battle for everyone.
Perhaps it's best that it's not available anymore because people would post there and wait quite a while for a response. Pat and I would post occasionally, but I had to stop when I couldn't access it anymore. Hopefully, people will be steered here and get more dependable assistance.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Hi all,
Just happened to get a minute to visit, and this was the first thread I came to.
No, I hadn't actually had time to be posting there in a long, long time, but I'd thought that there were still people there who were more recent in their own experiences with the same results that many of us had had several years ago.
I will be glad if lots of newbies are able to trace this group here.
I had the same experience on the old site when I first visited there because for a whole year, I just read the friendly banter of all the "old" members who were well on their way, and appeared to be out of trouble. Matter of fact, I left for about a year, and came back in desparation, only this time I actually SIGNED UP on that site...a MAJOR step for me, since I was bigtime afraid of the internet back then, and not knowledgible in how to protect myself. That just shows how desparate I was by then. What was different was that right after I signed up, I actually posted, asking for help, and received tons of information about how the others, like Polly, had gotten relief, and how to go about some of the finer details. It was like a miracle for me!
Anyway, I know exactly what you mean, and hopefully, the newbies will be posting enough here so that those who come right behind them will see that in the early stages, in particular, there are some issues that have to be dealt with, and they'll find a person or people who can relate to their issues more easily having just gone through them themselves.
This was why the board put some of the more factual type information right up top, so that the "chit chat" wouldn't run people off. It would be interesting to know what percentage of visitors read all that and then post vs the no. who just read and move on. Wayne, do you have any data collected on this?
OK, sorry I can't visit more , and when I can, I can't stay all that long. Continue to miss keeping up with the lives of all my old friends and make new ones. You all have been such a blessing.
Yours, Luce

Hi Luce,
While I can look at statistics for total "hits" for the site, and see how many are repeat visitors, or "new" visitors, I don't really have anything set up to collect traffic data on individual pages, (though that could be set up, if desired). There are so many web crawlers, (search engine bots), checking the site all the time, that I'm not sure if that information would be worth much, anyway. I do occasionally check to see which pages anonymous visitors are viewing, in "real-time", (I just don't collect any statistics on that). When you look at the IP addresses while they are actually viewing the pages, you can easily tell whether they are search engine spiders, spam bots, or real people.
It appears that a high percentage of anonymous visitors do indeed read the "Our History and Mission", and "Welcome Message and Information for Newbies" pages. How many of them eventually sign up, is impossible to say. Apparently, quite a few visitors lurk for weeks and even months before signing up, and some sign up, but wait weeks or months before posting. I suspect that a lot of people are benefiting from the information, whether they join or not. Some new members have obviously already done a lot of reading before they write their first post.
I believe you are right, though, in pointing out that sites like this are constantly evolving, with some members just beginning the journey, some 'in transit", some who have recently achieved remission, and some who have been in remission for years. We've accumulated quite a few case histories here, in the three plus years we've been posting, and we've been blessed with a fair number of "testimonials", to boot. A lot of members, of course, learn what they need to know, earn their remission, and then "ride off into the sunset", hopefully, to live happily ever after.
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
