I believe your Mom is correct about the same ones returning (and offspring probably). How else can I explain the fact that every year one hovers in front of our window to let us know that it's time to put out the feeders. This really happens.....

That is so neat Shirley about the hummingbird coming to your window..
I noticed when we were camping that if my feeders would go dry the hummingbirds would just keep hovering where I had the feeders . I have the feeders where they are always in eyes view, so it was like, Ok , mommy, we're waiting for you to feed us..
I love to watch them and hear the sound of the yellow finches.

We belong to this organization http://www.hummingbirdsplus.org/
and went to one of the bird bandings at Ft. Morgan. It was fascinating.

We saw our first painted buntings. Amazing. They give grosbeaks "pacifiers" so they don't bite anyone......

Kat,

We see a few here, at various times, but this doesn't seem to be a high traffic area for the little critters. I've never really noticed a pattern, but that's probably because I haven't been paying close enough attention. They're especially interesting, from an engineering perspective, because of their high-speed wing beat rate. That has to take an incredible amount of energy.
