Need suggestion for OTC nausea meds ?
Hello Everyone!
I am in desperate need of any OTC nausea med. suggestions. I've been on Entocort going on 4 weeks and have done really well, no significant side effects until the past week. By late afternoon I'm beginning to have pretty bad nausea. Bad enough that I can't keep much down past 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I've tried ~ Pepto, Tums, Rolaids, Gaviscon, and liquid Mylanta...........what else do you guys suggest??
I'm seriously beginning to weigh my options here, D or Nausea, that's how bad it's getting. Maybe I should just jump ahead of schedule and lower my dose to 2 Entocort instead of 3 and see if that helps. The first 2 weeks it was a vague afternoon headache, that passed, maybe this will too.
Thanks,
Kat

Hi Kat,
I'm sorry to hear that the nausea is getting worse.

Here are some popular home remedies for nausea:
Orange Peel: Perhaps the simplest of all the home remedies for nausea, but not necessarily the least effective. Peel an orange and bruise the skin by twisting and crushing it with your fingers. Hold the skin to your nose and sniff the scent.
Lemon: Another old home remedy for nausea is lemon. In some cases, merely smelling a freshly cut lemon can be helpful. Lemon juice mixed into warm water and sipped slowly works as well. I think that Andi uses this one.
Ginger Water: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger in a cup, add boiling water, and brown sugar to taste. Drink warm. Leave the ginger in the cup and top it up with more water 1 or 2 times throughout the day if necessary. Ginger is one of the most popular hone remedies for nausea. Some people prefer to take ginger capsules.
Ginger Tea: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger and 2-3 grams of black tea (or a tea bag) in a cup. Add boiling water, then let it steep for several minutes. Drink warm. As above, leave the ingredients in the cup and top it up throughout the day if necessary.
Powdered Cinnamon and Sliced Ginger: These work by interrupting nausea signals sent from the stomach to the brain. If you are a herbal tea drinker, simply sprinkle powdered cinnamon on the tea, and drink it.

From the "Side Effects" tab at:Headache, nausea, stomach upset, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex,
I read that nausea was a side effect, but I won't give in to them dang it! Little doses all day long of nausea meds help, at least I'm not on the verge a "loosing it all" constantly. I swore I'd never take Pepto again, however I do have a rather large supply. I'll definitely try the orange peel, I have a few here.
I'm having to make myself eat these days, which doesn't help. I'm sure Entocort users probably need to eat on a somewhat steady basis. I'm going to lower my dose to 2 tomorrow and see if that doesn't help as well. I'd rather take the long road than not get there at all
Thank You again,

Green Tea w honey is also good, I hear they give that to Cancer patients when they take Chemo. I have experimented alot over the years with herbs. Sometimes I add a small amt of ginger to my green tea. I don't use honey unless it's a bitter herb that I make tea from. But to each his own taste. I take that back, when I make My cough syrup I use honey. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Kat,
A lot of folks swear by peppermint. Do you have an old candy cane around? LOL! Peppermint tea might help. Peppermint Altoids are strong and help me, but I think Carrie says that Rick can't tolerate them.
If push comes to shove, you can always ask your doc for a prescription anti-nausea drug. At least it might help you get a fair trial with the Entocort.
Love,
Polly

Thanks for your help! I found something last night called Nauzene, a cherry chewable that seems to work pretty quickly and helped for several hours. Since I'm more or less off dairy these days I am not taking my Aciphex for acid reflux. Peppermint (though not always) can get that stirred up. Ginger and I don't get along either ~ but that's my Mother's fault, LOL. She is a great cook, and has always had International palate. I grew up eating an extra-ordinary array of tastes that young children, I'm pretty sure are not meant to eat. She LOVED ginger, and put it in everything!! So, she more or less ruined it for me, I can't stand the smell of now.
I only took 2 Entocort this morning. If I get nauseous today, I'll go back to 3 tomorrow & keep on trucking with the Nauzene << funny name don't ya think? If that stops working I will call the Doctor for something Industrial Strength.
Thanks everyone
<<<< Luv these little snowflakes!

A little late
I may be a little late but an Italian friend of mine gave me a recipe for nausea and stomach upsets in general. Take a few, maybe six, Bay leaves, a little sugar or honey and 2 cups of water. Boil until palatable and just a couple tablespoons should clear it up in a hurry. Helps with bloating, as well. Good luck, Carol
