Interesting, (And Probably Irrelevant), Statistic About Food

Post by tex »

Hi All,

This is a moot point, but I found it rather interesting that in the third quarter of this year, consumer expenditures for food declined for the first time since 2002, dropping 2.0% from the second quarter levels. This is also the largest month to month decline ever reported, since record keeping for this statistic began in 1947.

You may be right. I notice that beer sales were up - maybe a lot of people are spending their food money on beer, instead.

My husband works in an factory that produces things like those plastic dohickies that lots of restuarants use to put their beer and wine lists in, and the do lots of other promotional stuff for the liquor industry...and yes, they feel that market does better in a recession. Sad.

Katy,

Yep, since I don't drink alcohol, I find that I usually eat more when I'm under more stress, IOW, food is my "escape vice".

Angy,

Thanks for the new word, "blootered". Never heard that one before. It's always nice to increase our vocabulary.
