Angy,

Yes, we have several chains of "Dollar Stores", but these days, most of them charge more than a dollar for a lot of their inventory.  They're still a good source of bargains, though.

Dollar Stores here are great for some things, but I generally find that the food items they sell for $1 can be purchased at my local grocery for $.75 or even less. Once I got some cans of juice (individual size) at a $1 store at 3 for $1, stopped at my regular grocery on the way home and saw the same brand 4 for $1!

I love them, though, for kids books, cleaning supplies, decorating things - stuff like that! I usually look there first for those things, but have learned to avoid the food items.

Kitty, YOu will love this.

We shipped our holiday packages to England and one was in a rather large box. My son and his wife wound up with a VAT tax since they take every 6th or 7th package and charge the tax. They had to pay 20 quid to get it. Interestingly enough, I think they pulled it just because it was big and over 40 pounds in weight.

Love, Maggie

P.S. - I love $$ stores.

We have two other dollar stores where the price is NOT a dollar.
