Yep, it didn't look good for the home team, for a while there. Apparently the truck had sat for a while, unused, and algae had grown in the diesel fuel in the tank. After I had driven about fifty miles, enough of the algae had accumulated on that screen to cause the truck to be starved for fuel, and after about a hundred miles, the problem became severe. It was a tricky problem, because the primary fuel filter was clean. Once we finally figured out what had happened, though, and located the offending screen in the fuel line, (ahead of the primary fuel filter), and cleaned it, the truck ran as good as new. I passed everything on I10 and I12, including a Greyhound Bus. As you may know, it's impossible for a truck to pass a Greyhound Bus, because they drive so fast, but I did it anyway. LOL. Actually, the bus wasn't going particularly fast - I guess the driver wasn't in as big a hurry as they usually are. I believe that's the only time in my life that I've ever passed one that was going in the same direction that I was going, though.

After everything else seemed to check out OK, my buddy called a friend at Austin Diesel Injection Service, (back in Austin, TX), and described the problem to him. He's the one who suggested that this particularly engine, (a Cummins), usually had a fine screen in the filter housing, that could be accessed by disassembling the filter housing.
Sometimes, knowing who to ask for help, is the key to solving a problem.
