I apologize for calling you at such an inconvenient time. I knew you were going to Florida but without anything to reference, I simply forgot when. I just wanted to get your opinion about my blown computer and whether it was worth repairing at $400.00. Didn`t seem like it to me but you are such a genius with electronics I thought you might have a different opinion.
All I really want from the old one is my pictures and the repairman said he could extract them for around $30.00. Sound about right to you?
Between your background noises and my messed up vocal cord, I didn`t think we could have a real conversation and I apologize again for calling without pre-arranging. Next time, for sure and hopefully just to say hello and chat a few minutes without asking any technical questions. Thanks for your understanding. Love, Carol

Carol,

Please, no apologies necessary. You're right, we were on a pretty noisy section of the highway, at the time, and to make matters worse, we were in a 4-wheel drive pickup, with noisy tires. For what it's worth, my answer would have been "no" - for $400, you can buy a pretty good computer, these days.

Copying files from the old hard drive is a pretty simple operation, but it does involve connecting the drive to another computer, in order to extract the files and copy them to a CD, DVD, or whatever. Since it will take some time, and a little effort, to do that, $30 is probably not an unreasonable charge, for someone who makes his or her living, repairing computers.

All the same, it was nice hearing from you, even though we couldn't hear each other very well.

Love,
Tex
