Gas leak!!!

Post by angy »

Well guys i took this week off for rest...On Monday i could smell gas at my front door..checked inside my house but the smell wasnt coming from there...The gas fire on my sitting room wall has been playing up too, the, pilot light keeps going off and i discovered sometimes there is no flame and the fire is still turned on...Anyway i know i didnt have a gas leak in my house so i called the gas board..guy checked my fire and said it was ok just needed a little clean in the pilot ..

I told him i could smell gas outside (i got a great sense of smell by the way) amyway he said he couldnt smell gas and said its probably just some fumes coming from your neighbours flue. mmm i thought .... ok then...he went away..

I was not convinced so i called transco gas emergency they sent someone out within an hour...they tested the front garden with their equipment..he was out there for over an hour...then he knocked on the door and said...come see this..!! he showed me his meter readings and yup!! there was something...he said he would have to wait until the big boys came!!hehe..so i made him a coffee and gave him a gf cake...he loved it...

Later the big boys came and they started digging...god they were out there all night..I woke up in the morning and my god!! my house resembled Edinburgh Castle hehe!! They have been digging for scotland out there lol!! I asked them if they had found any treasure!! they all just laughed..

Turns out there is a hole in a pipe underground and they gotta dig up the whole area..phew!! just think i could have been blown over to you guys!!lol

These guys have been diggng for 3 days and i guewss its gonna run into next week...Hope i dont fall into a hole when i leave my house...lol!!!

Angy,

 Wow! That's serious business. Good for you, for having faith in yourself, and doing what needed to be done.

We would love to have you in this country, but I'd much rather see you arrive by a safer means of transportation. LOL.

Sure wish I had a "smoke" right now. Sometimes I want one soooooo bad but then I think about the 5 years of "no smoke" I've been through and I hate to just throw that away. If I had just one I'm sure I'd be a smoker again.

At least the feeling passes fairly quick now. Just been coming more often since this summer.

Shirley,

I can understand what you are going through. It's been 18 months for me and there are times I could really use a cigarette. Usually, when I look back on it, those are when I am under either the most stress or am bored. I think the stress times are the worst and I have to "white knucle" my way through them. At least when it's boredom and I chose to find something different to do. I also know that if I ever had one I would be back smoking full time. I know it's an addiction for me, just like alcohol is for alcoholics. Hang in there. You can do this.

Angy,

Those pipes must have been in place for many, many years, and they're apparently rotten from one end to the other. That was a catastrophe waiting to happen, and it's certainly a good thing you caught it before it got to that point. I don't know if you'll be on the tv evening news because of this, but you sure would have been if something had accidentally ignited that gas leak. That might have even made the world news.
