Hello and Merry Christmas from JJ

Post by JJ »

Merry Christmas everyone! I have not been around as much lately..the new job is keeping me hopping...I have had the past 3 days off due to lots of snow...now....a new storm is coming today! This should be a doozy...how are my fellow Washingtonians doing? Yesterday, I headed to the store and hardware store...stocked-up on Water, propane canisters, batteries....everyone in my little town is taking this storm very seriously...here is the most recent storm warning....BTW...I live 20 mins below Snoqualmie Pass so am expecting the worst. I have never been in a real blizzard! Wheeee. I bought a small propane heater, but don't have a woodstove or fireplace....sigh. I heard all hotel rooms are booked as far west as Seattle.

I may not be around much if the power goes out...I will check-in to let people know I'm OK, but will need to save my computer battery for emergencies. Take care dear friends...Love, JJ

Blizzard warning now in effect from 4 pm this afternoon to 1 pm pst Sunday,

Heavy snow will develop late today in the Cascades at the same time that strong east winds are developing through gaps in the cascade terrain. The combination of heavy blinding snow and east winds gusting locally in excess of 75 mph will create blizzard conditions in the passes through early Sunday afternoon. Blizzard conditions will impact locations on the west slopes beneath the major mountain passes, including the i-90 and highway 2 corridors on the west side of snoqualmie and stevens passes.
Storm total snowfall in the Cascades will reach one to two feet. The strong winds tonight will cause whiteout conditions which could disorient anyone driving or getting caught outdoors. The winds in the Cascades will also cause snow to blow and build into drifts. Wind chill values of zero to 25 below zero are expected tonight.
An avalanche watch is also in effect for Sunday.
This is an extremely dangerous situation. Considerable blowing and drifting snow will create whiteout conditions and make roadways impassable. If you become stranded, the situation can become life threatening.

Hi Jill,

Wow! That doesn't sound good. Be careful. In case you've never tried those little one pound propane canisters before, (if those are the ones you're referring to), be aware that they will only last for a few hours or less, in most heaters, set on high. IOW, they won't get you very far, unless you bought a bunch of them. If you're talking about the five or 10 pound tanks, obviously they will last a lot longer.

Please be careful, and make sure your cell phone batteries are fully charged, if you have one.

You'll be much safer at home, than stranded on the road, somewhere, obviously, if the situation gets to be as bad as it sounds as though it will. Here's hoping for the best. :xfingers:

Love,
Tex

Hey J.j.,
How'd you do? I was watching the news last night. It was nasty up there. We got the snow but NO wind, which I'm very thankful because that always means days without electricity for us. We have 10" of snow which is crazy for us and it's still snowing. We had school 2 1/2 days last week.
Let us know how you are!
Take care.

Howdy....I am safe...highest wind here last night was 57MPH....not quite as high as they thought. The power went out at 12:30 AM, then came on 10 mins later....my neighbor told me it went off several times last night...I was sound asleep. :countsheep: My word there is a lot of snow here...it drifted in areas, so not sure how deep it really is. In one place, it came to the top of my UGG boots....about 11 inches. It is snowing again today....it is also still very cold! People were iceskating today and last night...also saw a few on xcountry skis and snow shoes...it was too nasty for me...I delivered plates of cookies to two of my neighbors and shoveled a bit of the walk way, then came inside. Brrrrrrr Guess many areas of the country are getting hammered...we haven't had a long snow/cold event like this since 1990.....Wheeeee!

Talk care all...stay warm...Hey Becky...I had only 2 days of school last week. Love, JJ
