Well, guess it's time to get back into some semblance of normal. It was a fairly calm Christmas. Went to a friend's house for a "gathering" Christmas Eve. She lost her husband the beginning of this year. They were good friends of mine & Bill's.
Christmas Day was at my daughter's home. Got up early to see the kids (12 & 16) open their presents. Had to wait almost 2 hours for them to get up after I got there. HaHa Have to remember that next year. The 16 year old (Kyla) will be at the mall all day today. She only wanted the green stuff so she could buy her own stuff. Her birthday is Sunday so she will receive even more green stuff then. She should have a great time spending it all. Perhaps it will stimulate the economy. (bad joke)
The 12 year old (Chan) got a Wii and a couple of extra games for it. YIKES, what an expensive piece of equipment. It's rather mind-boggling but it's probably better for the kids than sitting and staring at a computer screen. One game he got was Rock Band. They made me try to play the guitar. I got booed, hissed at, things thrown at me and "thrown off the stage". HaHa It was really funny.
My son & his wife were supposed to arrive today for a week stay. Turns out Caren had some surgery last week (they never mentioned it until yesterday) and isn't doing as well as she should be so they are seeing the dr. again today. Depending on how that goes and how she feels they may come in on Sunday. I sure hope they are able but her health is the important thing.
I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas. Hope all your dreaded things never happened and hope all the possible good things did happen.
Love, Shirley

Hi Shirley the rock star (NOT)!
I want to add my warmest holiday wishes to you (and everyone).
We went to my niece's yesterday and had a great time. We play silly games and have even sillier prizes. Dollar store prizes like paste-on mustaches, a whoopee cushion, and those awful rotten plastic teeth...... and then we get even more silly. You wouldn't believe the photos! I guess what our family lacks in maturity we make up for by having FUN. I laughed for hours - my stomach muscles were sore when I got home.
My brother gave me some really funny "family" photos in frames where he used one of those computer programs to insert our photos into the masterpeices, like Mona Lisa and American Gothic, and also an original Beatles photo of the fab four with our own faces.
My wish for all of us - a happy and healthy new year.
And lots of PQU - peace, quiet, and understanding.
Love,
Polly

Christmas Eve at Carla's was OK---seems as the years pass and the wee kids are reaching adulthood--and decide to prance off with their friends--the holiday eve became quieter-
One of the gals there--lost her hubby last month----had her house broken into last week and appears that it had to be *done by kids that knew her routine---stole all Xmas cards--(guess looking for $$$) and other stuff--
Christmas Day was at Doug's----he wasnt tolerating the *noise and yakkity-yak* --his in-laws arrived and are staying till tomorrow---U could see the agony in his face and also ATTITUDE--which he later called us up to apologize to Louie--cus he and Doug sorta got into a little TIFF!!!!
Yes----I also gave Kristyn and Kait $$$ for the same reason---Grannies taste isnt what they like
-Kait saves her $$$--Kristyn spends her $$$$--and college is getting better=
Daddy *Will* came over and gave his daughters some $$$--but his attitude is still the *pits*
Far be it for to me to give a crap about Willard the Rat--
Today---rain again---windy---but tis OK with me----
Have a good weekend

Christmas is definitely for kids, (of all ages). We had a little family get-together here, on Christmas Eve, followed by some local visiting, here and there, on Christmas Day, but Christmas just isn't what it used to be - I guess too many of the "kids" in our bunch are getting too old, and/or, have too many other things going on, these days.
Still, it was fun, and I'm optimistic that this year, for a change, I may even be able to escape the customary virus that I usually pick up at those gatherings. (I've been downing lots of vitamin D, to help ward off the germs from all the sneezers and coughers who always show up every year. LOL).
Believe it or not, it's 81 degrees here, right now, with a hot, dry wind blowing out of the south, (Texas droughts are always fun), and it was almost as warm yesterday, so that may be part of the reason why I haven't felt very "Christmassy", this year. <sigh>
I, too, hope that the new year fulfills all of our wishes, and our needs - for those of us involved with agriculture, in Texas, a good soaking rain, is high on the list.
Love,
Tex

Wow, Polly!
Thanks a bunch! I appreciate your efforts. Those three look as though they know what they're doing. I'll let you know how well it works.

My visit to my daughter included eating out many times.
DD's birthday was Saturday - we went to an Italian restaurant for lunch. I brought my own cooked rice pasta and my homemade bread for the bruschetta. It worked out great! It wasn't very crowded and the chef prepared my things without a hitch.
Ate at another Italian restaurant for another family party. DH talked to the owner and he assured him I could eat the rice and gravy, which was made with cornstarch. Had that with beef and onions. Big D the next day.
The next family gathering was a Hawaiian brunch at an old, beautiful hotel with a small stage and a piano. This is my SIL's family. Some grandchildren played the piano, sang songs, and the whole group (about 60 people) sang carols. I didn't have any problems the next day, so I'm ready to visit Hawaii again!
Went to DD's in-laws for Christmas eve and was expecting turkey. They served Kentucky Fried Chicken instead because it was leftover from the company party.
I peeled off the skin and breading and ate it with a baked potato. It seemed to be OK. Maybe I can add KFC to my list of acceptable fast food restaurants! The grandchildren acted out the manger scene as they do every year. I'm very fortunate that both of my daughters' in-laws willingly include us in their holiday celebrations.
It was nice to visit, but it's nice to be back home. Now I have a cold to nurse. Always happens when I visit the grands.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Gloria,
Wow! You've got nerves of steel, to be willing to "skin" a breaded piece of chicken, and eat it. The only way that I would attempt that is if someone were holding a gun on me, and I knew for a fact that he/she was a crack shot, otherwise I'd rather take my chances dodging bullets. LOL.
Seriously, I'm amazed that you got away with that one, but maybe there isn't as much wheat flour in the Colonel's breading as I always assumed there was.

Christmas
I`m happy that everyone had a good day...I would like to have seen yours a little better, Barbara.
Gloria, you are one brave soul. Glad you only had the one day of D.
Tex, I`ll add a little prayer for the penguins to continue dancing.
Shirley, sounds like awful excitement for you. So sorry to hear that.
My day was great! Went to DD who went all out on gifts...as usual. Among other things she got me a new printer. A Kodak ESP 3. Not the one I was hoping for but will do just fine.
Would liked to have had a 5 or 7. SIL cooked a delicious dinner and since I only have to watch fats I decided what the heck and just ate some of everything. Nothing bad happened, thank goodness. Then went to nieces house and enjoyed their two boys, 10 and 12 as well as my SIL and BIL. It is always so nice to be with family at this time of year.
Polly, it sounds like you ALWAYS have a good time. You are such a sweetheart.
Tex, we lived in Houston and Daytona Beach for 5 years each and I so wanted to come North during the Christmas season. I missed the changing seasons and the snow, believe it or not. Most of the time I hate snow.
All in all, we had a wonderful Christmas and wish that everyone could have the same. Love, Carol

I`m sorry Shirley, I guess I had a "Senior moment" there. I meant that line for Barbara. Tried to edit but was unsuccessful. I truly am sorry to hear about your daughter in law. I hope everything turns out well for her. Love, Carol
