Resistance bands for exercise

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

Anyone use resistance bands for exercise in this group. If so, which exercises are you doing, and are you making progress with your strengthening? Do you do this in place of lifting weights? I just gave my sister a DVD/CD thingie that instructs how to use them, but I've not actually seen it myself. These resistance bands have a handle at each end.

Anyway, just wanted some feedback from anyone who's tried these things.

Luce,

I have been using resistance bands as part of PT for my shoulder. From what I see there, it is pre-weights. There is a guy in PT who is recovering from shoulder surgery. He does a little with the bands and then is working out with 2 lb weights. I'm not up to weights yet.

As far as lower body resistance (in your other post), when I was working out with a personal trainer (before I hurt my shoulder) we were doing lunges for lower body core exercises. That does work the muscles in your back, hips and stomach area, besides the legs. If there is a gym close by that offers personal training, sign up for a session or two and ask for exercises specific for those areas.

Hope this helps.

Luce----I use resistance bands in some of the Yoga poses----and Lou also uses them for at home workouts----

They are great to help U workout your aches and pains --or to help heal an injury!! and to strengthen your body~~~

In yoga we use a more Xpandable band----Lou uses a tighter band for his workouts--

Hope this adds a bit more to guide U--

Good results coming your way-

Thank you so much. I didn't know all this! I think I may have found a group that could do some age specific things that would help me. I'm a bit afraid of some of the trainers since I've known a few people who've received injuries from their overdoing it with these clients. You be careful, now, ya hear! Ha!

Thanks again! Anyone else want to chime in here?
