Here's The "Poop" On Sodium Phosphate Preps

Post by tex »

Hi All,

This article explains why "cleanout solutions" containing oral sodium phosphate can be dangerous to our kidneys. Supposedly, the risk is not nearly as high, so long as we drink plenty of water with them.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I'm a weird case with the oral sodium phosphate..
It not only cleans me out, but I vomit the whole day too.
And I drink lots of liguids, but they don't stay down long.

OMG! I am so glad I read this post. I thought I was the only one who reacted badly having to drink the prep solution for my colonoscopy. I can't believe that I'm not alone.

I started vomiting so bad that David called the Doc's after hours line and was told to make me drink everything instructed. Arghhhhh!!!

I did the best I could but have NO IDEA what I will do when I'm scheduled for another one because the prep for my first one was a total nightmare.

Tex do you know if there is anything else that can be taken so that we do not have to go through that kind of experience again?

Oh yah.................weighed in today and I now am 99lbs! Gained another half pound in 3 weeks. Maybe I'll reach my goal of 100lbs. by New Years.

Love and God Bless:

Jodi,

I think I've tried every one that's available, and IMO, none of them are suitable for human consumption. They're all far worse than the exam itself. Someday, someone will invent a decent prep solution, and he or she will soon become the richest person on the planet, because everyone would use the new product, instead of the disgusting slop that's available now.

Love,

I don't understand why there are so many preps out there. When I had my tests, I was given 1 bottle (8 to 12 ounces...forget but not unreasonable) of magnesium citrate, which while I wouldn't want to drink it on a regular basis wasn't too bad, and then was told to take 3 dulcolax tabs (which I could take with regular water). It wasn't fun, but it wasn't awful either.
