Should I be Worried?

Post by kate_ce1995 »

Well, the latest on my D episode is that the D has slowed down, but now every time I go to the bathroom, I'm pooping mucus. I think I've just plain run out of anything in my intestines.

I feel fine, other than being tired, but I think that is getting back into a work routine after the holidays, and having had a head cold for the last week (which is better, but still slightly congested). So I'm guessing there isn't anything serious here, but it's a weird feeling to feel like I'm having D to find a "clean" bowl afterwards. I'm hoping things have just started going back to normal.

Kate its possible that cold you caught has caused a flare up...maybe your system is a little run down...I have been in bed since new years eve with a really bad strain of flu virus...it totally floored me and it caused me to have mc flare ups...I recommend you try echinchea herbal supplements to boost yourimmune system...they got me back on my feet the past couple of days...

hope you feel better soon :bigbighug:

WoW Kate,
Hope you are getting back up to par. I know how disconcerting it can be to just poop mucus and I doubt I've done it more than two or three times in a row. There are other times when it's mixed with poop but when it happens often I wonder what's going on.

Take care Kate.

Hi Katy,

I sure am sorry to hear you are feeling under the weather. I guess the holidays took their toll on many of us.

I'm still battling a flare myself. Pooping mucous freaked me out the first time I saw it...yikes!

I hope you feel better SOON!

Love,
Jill

Hi Kate,

Mucus in the stool can be due to a lot of things. The primary causes, (as you are surely aware), are inflammation due to an IBD, bacteria/parasites, food intolerances, yeast, (candida), bowel obstruction, or cystic fibrosis. Obviously, if you had cystic fibrosis, it would have shown up long before this, and an obstruction should be causing nausea and vomiting. That leaves the ones that are tough to pin down. Candida is probably out, since you would notice the itching, thrush, craving for sugar, etc. Since you have MC, any food intolerance reactions would likely be connected with it, so that leaves either MC or bacteria/parasites, which you already knew, of course.

Whichever it is, your reaction seems to be rather intense. If you aren't actually passing normal amounts of stool, on a daily, or bi-daily schedule, you may need to reconsider the possibility of an obstruction, especially since an obstruction can cause chronic D.

Since you have a history of endometriosis, there exists a possibility that you may have developed intestinal involvement. With intestinal involvement, 15 to 72% of cases involve the sigmoid colon and rectum, which I would think, could result in a potential obstruction. Anyway, that's a possibility to consider. As you probably recall, I have had experience with an obstruction problem, myself.

Chances are, though, you're just having an intense MC reaction, with a significant amount of inflammation.

Hi Tex,

I'm thinking it is significant inflammation. After they diagnosed me with the staph thing, I never felt like all the inflammation went away. Right before this episode that will be two weeks old on Monday started, I felt horribly bloated. Now I've had nothing but water D since and don't feel bloated, my appetite is good (too good..having a hard time getting back on track after the holidays). Now since about Wednesday or Thursday, I've had one or two episodes of the water D in the morning (was at 10 or so a day last week), and then just a little bit of extra water poop with each potty trip, but mucus every time.

I doubt it's the endo...I've been hormone free (read menopausal) for 3.5 years now because of the round of Lupron and the surgery. I do get some prickly pain with this latest thing, but never in the same spot, so I think it's just where the gas bubbles are in relation to nerve endings and such.

I just don't know what to think.

Those "mucous poops" were really frightening at first.. but got used to them showing up now and then.
