Sorry about missing the chat.

Post by jodibelle352 »

 Sorry I missed Saturday's chat. I decided it would be much more productive to pack Christmas away. Since I'm the type of person who doesn't know enough to SLOW down, take periodic breaks and be CAUTIOUS I got my feet tangled in David's oxygen hose while going into the kitchen and not watching my step I now know the meaning of "crash and burn"! :help:

Needless to say I went down face first and on both knees. :yikes: Thank goodness I am only 5'2" so that my fall wasn't so far down. It's very true for those of you who have never fallen. It's NOT the fall that hurts. It's the sudden impact when certain parts of your body make contact with the floor. Now that's what causes pain.

At the present time I'm doing a lot of sitting with my feet up. I am not able to put any weight :barbell: on my left leg because when I do I receive a surge of pain from my knee up like a :lightningbolt:

I'm hoping it will be better tomorrow so I don't have to go to emergency for xray's. Having osteoperosis I probably should have gone Saturday when it happened but I didn't. :Itchscratch: Each of you can take turns hitting me later but not right now. Please?

It's really quite strange, there's some swelling around my knee and if I put any weight on it like a said earlier it's a sudden jolt of pain. It's also very tender and sore to the touch around the knee on my left leg. Now here's the kicker! It's not black and blue? :monkey: Makes me wonder what I may have done but am hoping it's just bruised and I need to stay off it for a couple days.

:happynewyeartext: :happynewyear2009: and Welcome Back home Dee. Can't wait to here how your time in Florida was. Did you bring back the sunshine and warmth to share with those of us who are FREEZING daily.

Love and God Bless:
Jodi

:thud: :comfort:

Nah, I'd never hit you for that!! I'm prone to doing things like that myself!!

Sure hope you haven't done any severe damage to that knee. Injuries like that can take some time to heal so please take care of yourself and "mind the Dr." if you do go to one (provided he give sensible advice, of course. HaHa)

Feel better soon. That sounds like a terrible fall. I do hope you go to the doctor.

Jodi,

Sorry about the fall. While the impact may have caused a slight amount of injury to your knee, I suspect that it was not the main cause of your knee injury. The reason is that your knees did not have very far to fall before impact, and they probably weren't carrying any significant amount of weight, at the moment of impact. IOW, your upper body impacted much harder than your knees, (and probably independently of your knees).

This is just a wild guess, but I'm guessing that you may have damaged the lateral collateral ligament, (LCL), when you tripped. If that is what happened, it would probably have been due to the oxygen hose applying a force that twisted your lower leg, or pulled it sideways, (inwards, toward the other leg), thus straining the LCL, since the LCL is on the outside of the knee, and it's job is to try to prevent the knee joint from flexing, (buckling), sideways, (outwardly).

I'm familiar with that particular type of injury, because my left knee is sensitive to that. A couple of years ago, I was foolishly using the outside edge of the sole of my boot, to scrape gravel back into a rut, (in too big a hurry to go get a shovel), and I accidentally overdid it, and flexed the knee joint enough to tear that ligament. The pain was severe if I tried to put any weight on that leg, and I had to use crutches for a while, but there wasn't much swelling. It took at least two weeks before I could walk without a severe limp. Since then, I have to be very careful that I don't apply any side loads on the outside of my foot, (or the inside of my knee), because that knee is very vulnerable to that type of injury, now, and I've had a couple of minor "re-injuries", since then. Here's what I'm referring to:

I hope it improves quickly.

Love,

Jodi,

I got an injury similar to Tex's a few years ago. I was sitting cross-legged on the ground, trying to give my parents 80-pound lab/rhodesian ridgeback some liquid medicine that she did not want to take, and after I squirted the medicine in her mouth, I decided to jump up without uncrossing my legs first. Believe me, I know all about clumsiness. I promptly fell back down. I thought I had just overextended or pulled a muscle, but I couldn't put any weight on it at all, nor could I bend the knee without serious pain. I hobbled to bed, thinking it would be better inthe morning, but I woke up a few hours later in a lot of pain. The night nurse said to take ibuprofin, which I did. When I went to the doc the next day, he told me to ice it and elevate it for about 20 minutes 3x a day, but no more than that. I also had a bit of swelling, but no bruising. I couldn't comfortably put weight on it for a couple of weeks; lucky for me, it happened when I had a couple of weeks off anyway. I used crutches to get around the house for a few days, and just limped after that. Ever since, though, I have to be careful with that knee.

I think knees are something of a design flaw :???: . I don't think I know anyone, of any age, who has good knees. Hope that tells you something and you feel better soon.

Love,

Hey Jodi,

I hope by now that you are feeling somewhat better. I promise not to beat you up. I've done my share of "silly" things. I know I strained a knee walking backwards to keep from being bitten by a pit bull one day. It took several months for that one to go away. One of the outcomes from that was the Dr. put me on heavy duty anti-inflammatory drugs and that brought on a major MC flare.

Take care of yourself.

It could also be a torn meniscus. I tore one three years ago after picking up a 4-year old. The pain was pretty excruciating. It was also sore to the touch. I had surgery to repair it a few months later.

You might want to have a doctor look at it.
