New PCP Was Great & Knowledgable

New PCP Was Great & Knowledgable

Afternoon All,

Well since my GP of many years retired - and she was great - I had to find a new PCP and met her for my first appointment yesterday. Was late getting in but my old BP spoiled me in that respect. I spent over 1.25 hours with her and she was aware of MC/CC and knew the ins and outs of it - what a surprise. She also treats 3 Chron's patients so that gave her another gold star. I was delighted in the time she took with me, acknowledged my honesty with her and also said that it was time for a new script for me. Apparently, when listening to my lungs she felt I might have the start of OPCD and started me on Spiriva and said she would leave it up to me to decide if I felt it was working. She said anyone who smoked as long as I have, would not be hurt by it but only helped. Must say she was honest. I have been winded lately so what do I have to lose. Only bad side effect I saw was constipation and had to laugh at that one. Can't hurt for me. :twisted:

All in all it was a good appointment and I feel like I just might have found a good replacement for my old doc. Nice to know I might have found #2 in a row. By the way, I fired my old GI after 7 years because I thought he was great but the last 2 appts. he just doesn't get it.

Maggie,

I am so glad you had such a great appointment with a new Dr. I have to go tomorrow for my annual with my PCP. He sure wasn't happy when I tried some alternative medicine avenues last year. I may have to look for a new one when this is over. The only reason I use him is he will give me a prescription for pain meds. I only use them when absolutely necessary. I took less than 60 all of last year. But to spend the time and energy to find a new one is always a pain.

Absolutely GREAT. I'm very happy for you.

Looking for the right doc can be a real PITA. I'm glad that it wasn't for you.

That's great news! I always hate to go doctor-shopping, because it usually reminds me of Russian roulette, where you just hope that you can survive the game. In your case, though, it was more like winning the lottery. :grin: Good for you.

Incidentally, you scared the hell out of me when I first read your post, (OPCD is a type of progressive degenerative disorder, that leads to dementia, parkinsons, and other bad stuff), so I'm guessing that you made a typo, and you really meant COPD, (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). COPD is still not much fun, but much better than OPCD, IMO. :hug1:

Anyway, kudos to your new doctor. It sounds like you're in good hands.

She sounds Like a treasure, I always feel giddy when I find a great Doctor. There are lots of great doctors out there, but few really understand our issues, Polly Does tho, Yeah Polly!!!

I'm so glad to hear you found another great PCP! We've been searching for the past couple of days to find ratings, recommendations, etc. for a new PCP. When all is said and done, I agree with Tex - it's still like Russian Roulette. I'm glad you won!

Morning Tex,

COPD is correct. I always get those abbreviations mixed up. Still not fun but glad it was caught early. Hopefully, but following the docs orders and doing 1 daily inhale - little side effects thank the Lord - all will go well.
