Really bad gut and fever

Post by angy »

Hi guys, not been on for a few days...been feeling reallly bad...although i have been at work im just managing to get through the day..
Had a pretty bad flare and its lasted for over a week...my stomach is so swollen and i have constant gurling...stomach pain with that too...BM are very soft and mushy  and i aint got control over them..Ive had to drive home like a grand prix driver when on duty (thankfully i work in the community and not in one designated place).

Thing is im getting a lot of high temperatures and im not sure if this is menopausal or not. I have had flushes for over a year and half...These fevers are kind of different from menopausal ones...and I aint getting much relief from the asacole, its just touching on it at the moment...Do you think ive taken a reaction to food?? This is over a week now... again!!!

Oh Angy, I'm so sorry. What you are describing sounds way beyond whatever suggestions I might make. It sounds like you may have something going on in addition to MC, especially if you are talking about having fevers instead of "hot flashes". I'm not clear on that. Sure wish you could take some time off work but I understand how that goes. If you can keep going......you do.

Someone else will be here soon who can offer more help, I'm sure.

Thanks shirley....ive just been reading on this link, looking for fever related articles on cc..
http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/40024539

this part kinda got me interested....under the heading...
Extra-articular manifestations of IBD
Fever may be associated with IBD; a chronic low-grade fever may be a manifestation of secondary amyloidosis in CD.
[/b]

Intestinal symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, cramping, weight loss and the passage of mucus per rectum. I also get the mouth ulcers and blurred vision.

im assuming they mean crohns disease???not cc. Although i have these symptoms with cc. So iow if this is the same thing..
im aware joanna put this uk site up on another thread (athritis information.)

Hi Angy!

I think a trip to your doc is in order. High fevers are not typical with MC or menopause. Have you noticed any blood in your stools? If so, you need to be tested for the C. difficile bug. You might even have another problem like diverticulitis (inflammation of gut pouches) or cholecystitis (inflammation of gall bladder).

Please keep us posted, and FEEL BETTER SOON!

Love,

Polly

Hi Angy,

I agree. A significant fever is more likely to be due to an infection of some sort, because fever is one of the tools that the body uses to fight infections. As Polly mentioned, blood would be suggestive of C. diff, but you can have a C. diff infection without blood, in some cases, especially in the early stages.

thanks guys i appreciate your speedy responses...had a huge Bm today and my stomach feels a little lighter and better, but not total improvement. No fevers since that but ill wait until tonight usually it hits me then...

Last visit with the doc when i had flu, I asked him (new young guy) to give me an antibiotic for my chest when i had the flu and he point blankly refused....he said "since you have cc its better not to take an antibiotic as it will probably give you diarea!! I thought id rather have the d than feel like this...

No signs of blood in stools but some mucus...
Polly i should check that out........

Angy,

If you can get a copy of your last colonoscopy report, it will show whether or not you have any diverticuli. Without the presence of diverticulosis, you cannot develop diverticulitis, (theoretically, at least). That information, (and other observations), will be noted in the endoscopy report, even though your doctor may not have mentioned any of that information in his followup with you.

Angy,
I agree that you should see a doctor. A high fever is an indication of an infection. Hot flashes come and go and it sounds like you know the difference. I hope you get this cleared up quickly.

Hope you get this figured out soon, Angy! MC is a big enough deal without other unknowns. Let us know how you're doing.

tex...i see my gi doc in march so ill ask him for a copy of the colonoscopy report...he never gives or tells me nothing that doc...

Discovered i have thrush back and feels like its burning inside...got some treatment today so thatl sort that...god dont know where that came from again !!...I work with a client who gets this on a regular basis...I had this a couple of months go and it felt the same as it is now...Still got gut ache but not so hot and feverish, looks like its calmed down a bit... I recently had my eyes tested and my optician is worried about my blood pressure...she says i have twisted veins in my eyeballs....lol  ..so i dont know about that yet...still trying to get another gp appointment...

Yknow i hate going to my docs surgery cos they make you feel like your wasting their time..I dont think they actually listen and just pretend to. They just make their own assumptions.

A classic example of this......

My friend gary went to the doctors for months with severe headaches, doc says to him take some painkillers and stop watching tv too much...Also keep off the pc for short breaks...he was pc guru!!!Well the headaches didnt stop and he kept going back. Months later he still hasnt been treated, then he gets taken to hospital cos he collapsed and next thing he knows hes got a brain tumour... ...he then was diagnosed with colon cancer which came from the tumour and then he died...

srry if im going off track here but this is a classic example of how much gp,s..
give a shi*...that case made me really angry... ...Rhat doc could have saved his life...

Angy,

I'm just guessing here, but a chronic candida infection may be the underlying cause of all your issues, including your eye problems. See this abstract, for example:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14767647

It is very, very difficult to get rid of a serious candida infection, and it can take months of treatment to do so. You may never be getting completely rid of it. Most doctors don't seem to realize how serious a threat candida can be. A systemic infection can affect just about every part of your body.

Note that candida can also cause mucus in the stool, (along with many other symptoms):

http://www.healthe-livingnews.com/artic ... ndida.html

I agree with you that a lot of doctors don't even bother to think, anymore. They just go through a similar routine for every patient they see, without really paying attention to what the patient is trying to tell them. I also had a friend who constantly complained of abdominal pain, and she went to doctor after doctor for most of a year, but none of them found anything wrong with her. Finally, it got so serious that she had to go to the ER one day, and there they found a tumor almost the size of a football in her abdomen. How could all those other doctors overlook something like that? That should be a crime.
