Nuts, Coronary Heart Disease, and risk of sudden death

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

Just thought I'd pass along this information from a study by Albert, C.M., et al that was in Archives of Internal Medicine in 2002. vol. 162, pp. 1382-1387.

This was a study of nut consumption and decreased risk of sudden cardiac death in the physicians health study. 21, 454 make participants enrolled, average age 40-84 yrs old, follow up for an average of 17 yrs.

The conclusion of this study was: Inverse association between nut consumption and total coronary heart disease is primarily due to a reduction in the risk of sudden cardiac death.

For those of us, which I think is most of us, who can have nuts, they are good for us, particularly raw and not too old.

Just thought I'd mention this, even though it's a little dated information.
Nuts to all of you! Haha!

I thought nuts could be the one thing I got to sample at Costco yesterday. After reading the jar, I decided it wasn't worth the risk since the were manufactured in a plant that also used soy, eggs etc.

Yes, that is a problem. Maybe we'd better boot this question over to Polly and friends. Polly, are you out there listening?

Yours, Luce
