Hi Lyn and
I am truly sorry but I must have missed your original post. I am sorry you had to find this board but If you need expert advise on how to manage this awful condition you couldn`t have come to a better place.
I am sure you will find just about everything you need and make some good friends and become part of this wonderful family at the same time. Hugs, Carol

Thank you Carol,
It's a nice friendly bunch here, with a positive outlook.
The group has convinced me to have another go at the gluten free diet. I did it before and I could tell the difference, but found the DF/GF combination just too hard. Now I am very used to being dairy free, so adding in gluten free should be a little easier.
So today is GF day!! All last week I pigged out on bread and vegemite and lollies and bought hot chips. And of course I am paying for it - no D, but my weird swellings and brain fog and no energy. Making myself sick mightn't make sense to everyone, but everyone deals with things emotionally in their own way, and I expect in a few days I'll start feeling really good.
Cheers,
Lyn

Lyn,
I have to agree with you that when I cut dairy products out of my diet, I missed them more than I missed foods that contained gluten. I'll bet it will be considerably easier, now that you're used to doing without dairy products.
I was lucky - I found that after avoiding a bunch of things for over two years, (gluten, dairy, soy, corn, sugar, fruits, and most veggies), I was eventually able to slowly reintroduce them into my diet, so that now, I'm able to eat almost anything, again, (except that I always totally avoid all sources of gluten, of course).
I did it in reverse order from what you are doing - IOW, I cut out gluten first, and then a year and a half later, when I was still getting sick, I cut out dairy, corn, and all forms of sugar. Like you, I made sure that I used up all of the ice cream that I had left in the freezer, just before I started the DF part of the diet.
Good luck with your treatment program.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I agree that eliminating gluten after you've eliminated dairy will be easier. There are so many substitutes for wheat flour, especially rice pasta products, that I scarcely miss it.
Good luck! You may find the information here helpful: http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=6
Also, I found this Gluten Free product list of foods useful when I went to the grocery store:

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
