Well after 2 1/2 months in the hospital I finally came home today
I contracted a staph infection after having surgery in November, I went in the hospital a robust 187 lbs, at time of discharge I am 140. And that is after adding 10 lbs before they would parole me. Honestly it has never felt so good in all my life to walk through the door and lay down on the chesterfield. I have a long way to go, I have no strength or energy. But the first step was not to die in the hospital, and the second was to get the heck out of there before the removed any more bits and pieces. I do owe the doctors and nurses a very big thanks. A happier group of people I have never met. Inspite of all they put up with every day they always seemed to be able to pull a smile out when it was needed.
My Goodness Dan!!
I am very HAPPY to see you post after all that you have been thru!
Wishing you increased strength & energy with each new day.
You will see that we have a handful of new members.
Hopefully when you feel stronger you can catch up on some posts.

Boy, you have sure been through an ordeal!!! I'm so very glad you are finally recovering. Please keep on posting as you feel able.............
We have been growing by leaps and bounds it seems. Lots of new members. Glad they found us but really sorry there are so many who need help.
Have you been able to continue your GF lifestyle. If you did in the hospital, you are a miracle worker. Seriously, how have you been as far as MC goes?
I don't even know how to begin to say what you have missed....... We do have some recently added "rooms" which have been interesting to read and Tex has added "blogs" for whoever wants to utilize that option. They are new so not much there yet.
So glad you posted.

Man! What an ordeal! I'll bet going through something like that, makes MC seem like a cake walk. I'm mighty glad they were able to save you, and I hope that you still had most of your essential parts when they discharged you. That MRSA is bad stuff.
You may recall that I had a little round with it about a month before you did. I was lucky, though, in that mine was strictly external, and it didn't spread very far before my immune system was able to handle it. I worry about what might happen if someone developed an infection while taking an immune system suppressing drug, or during a bad case of the flu, because a severe virus can also limit the effectiveness of the immune system.
If it took them two and a half months to control it, you had a mighty severe case. We're lucky we didn't lose you. I'll bet it was a great feeling to get back home. Did your dogs still recognize you?
As others have mentioned, we've added a lot of great new family members, since you've been gone.

Boy have you been through the wringer and I was also wondering where you were too. Wishing you increased strength and better health. You have missed new members and we are growing a lot and it seems that maybe the docs are getting to realize that this disease exists.
Rest and take your time returning to the "real" world.
Love, Maggie

Wow, Dan! What a time you have had! It sure is good to see you back. I hope you're feeling much better soon, but make sure you give yourself time to rest and heal.
Good grief, Dan! It sure is good to see you posting after being that sick and in the hospital that long. I am happy that your ordeal is over and that you gain new strength, and weight, every day. Stay well. Hugs, Carol
Unbelievable, Dan! You've been through the wringer. You lost 57 lbs. in 2½ months? I'm so sorry that you had to go through such an ordeal. I'm glad that you were able to overcome the infection and hope that you will steadily improve every day. Welcome back!
Gloria
You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Thanks everyone. It has been a rough couple of days, mainly just readjusting to life on the outside. I kind of understand the term "institutionalized", now I have to start doing things for mself again . Before this whole ordeal I walked 4-5 miles a day, now just going to get the newspaper seems like a big deal. I have had mostly tissue removed, some areas (actually most) are not fully healed, the healing takes place from the inside out so they tell me. It's all rather gastly looking and very unsightly. Ultimately it appears I will need some skin grafts done. The MC has not been much of a factor with all the anti-biotics and heavy doses of narcotic pain killers, they have a neutralizing affect. I am nearly off the pain meds, but the anti-biotics I will be taking for some time.
You know, you may want to write a book about that experience. You've had quite a journey.
