My liver scores were SGOT 55
SGPT 73
Normal is 0-40 for both says the nurse.
Ultrasound showed the same gallstone I've had for years.
The last time my scores were elevated, I changed from Lipitor to Pravachol. I consulted with surgeon informally when DH was having an operation. He said if it wasn't bothering me, I didn't have to do anything.
Doc wants me to see a surgeon. I told my nurse that I've had all the D in my life that I can handle. I know I'm playing Russian Roulette.
Feb. 4th issue of Smart Brief said 70% of silent gallstones aren't ever a problem.

Joan,
Removing your gallbladder may not resolve the problem. I believe we've discussed the possibility of a possible obstruction in the common bile duct, before, if my memory is not playing tricks on me. Has your doctor considered that possibility?

Still, your numbers aren't all that high, so whatever it is, probably isn't an urgent situation. Various things can cause those test results to be above normal, such as fatty liver, due to high triglyceride and cholesterol levels, and, of course, various meds can cause that effect. I agree that the presence of gallstones don't always mean that it's time to call a surgeon.

I have had elevated enzymes for over 3 years now and we still can not figure out why. I even had my gallbladder removed in 2007 (it was not functioning properly and I was in pain on my right side). I did not have any stones. But I would think that an ultrasound would have shown a stone. Are you in any pain?
