I hope you managed to get away from the money suckers in time - while you still had enough money to get back home.
It's good to see you posting again - we've been wondering what you've been up to.

Yep, this topic can be considered to be a rather complicated issue. The body's organs produce many types of proteins that circulate in the bloodstream, and each protein has a specific function. A medical test known as serum electrophoresis, allows the the blood proteins to be separated, identified and measured.
Human blood usually contains five major groups of protein: albumin, alpha-1 globulin, alpha-2 globulin, beta-globulin and gamma- globulin. These proteins can be further divided into classes by additional tests, in order to define the forms known as immunoglobulins: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG and IgM. Depending on the protein characteristics in the blood, then, doctors can sometimes diagnose certain diseases.
Patients sometimes show abnormal proteins, or an excess of a particular protein, in the blood. The most common abnormality is an over-abundance of IgM, which is seen in myeloma and other forms of plasma, (blood), cell cancer. Her doctor may want to perform a bone marrow test, to make sure her plasma cells, in the marrow, are normal.
Sometimes, excess proteins may just represent a normal variation, but the answer to your question depends on what sort of proteins are elevated. In general, though, too much protein in the blood may cause kidney damage.
High total protein levels may be a result of many things, including arthritis, chronic infections, dehydration, Hodgkin's lymphoma, (which is a cancer of the lymph nodes, spleen, and bone marrow), leukemia, vomiting and diarrhea, etc. IOW, the cause could be something minor, or something serious.
Hopefully, in Carla's case, it's just something minor. Sorry I can't be more specific.
