If Only....

....I could make my bottom inhale my asthma puffer!

Since my Pulmicort asthma preventer is really just Budesonide, which is the same active ingredient as Entocort, I don't see why it wouldn't work. If only I could make my bottom suck instead of blow.

Having a bad week, ate very little other than rice, honey and bananas for the last three days, but still poop liquid. Don't like that a close work colleague has had c.diff, and every second person has the flu - and I have been having a touch of fever and feeling crook. Oh, and my GP's office closes tomorrow. My records go to new clinic close to work (good) but it doesn't open till later next week, my GP for many years goes to new location on other side of town (bad).
/end moan.

It sounds as though there's a good chance that you may have caught a virus. Most doctors insist that a fever cannot be a part of MC, (though some of us here disagree). At any rate, a fever is generally a very good indication that something else is going on.

Sorry that you're losing your doctor. I hope the replacement turns out to be as good or better than the one you're losing.

Actually, budesonide is available in rectal form, (as an enema), and the University of Maryland is currently doing a clinical trial, to determine if a combination of oral and rectal budesonide might offer an advantage over oral treatment alone, for UC patients.

I wish I had some good advice to give you but I will pray that you will soon find some relief. Hope the new doctor is one of the rare ones that can be respected and trusted (at least somewhat) with your treatment.

I am feeling somewhat better this morning. Gut feels more settled, but I still don't trust it.

Tex, I suspect you are right with the virus thing. Is there a relationship between MC flares and catching a virus? I think I have seen a few people post that they are having flares, and then come down with colds etc

Budesonide as an enema is an obvious thing to try - you got to wonder why it takes them so long to try these things sometimes. I guess they figure people don't like enemas.

Of course, anyone who is taking a corticosteroid, or one of the other immune system suppressants, is more vulnerable to catching a virus. In a sense, I suppose MC itself would up the odds a little, simply because the body is likely to be more run down, from already fighting MC, and one's resistance would be somewhat weaker, especially if malabsorption is involved, (which could cause vitamin deficiencies).

The viruses that have been going around here in the States, this season, have seemed to be more contagious than usual, (for me at least - I caught some sort of flu-like virus in August, and then a cold in October - which is way ahead of the normal schedule for stuff like that, in this area).

The thing about it, is that once we have MC, (I know this is true for me, at least), we tend to automatically assume that every case of D that comes along, is an MC flare. We forget that people in the general population sometimes have D, also.

I guess they figure people don't like enemas.

Well, they would be right about me not liking them, anyway. We would have to change the way we think about them, I suppose.
