I have to agree that if whoever writes that feature really thinks that question is worthy of your and my time and consideration, they need to get a life, and maybe the newspaper would be better off if they assigned that individual to some other job, like maybe cleaning the restrooms, and they picked a replacement who wasn't from la-la land.

Apparently all of the real problems of the world must have been solved during the night, while we were sleeping, and we just haven't become aware of that yet.

Hi Sisbarb and Tex,

I have a different take, I guess. There has been plenty of disaster and grief in this world for AGES (probably since humans first appeared) and so many who preach doom and gloom and fear and hate every day. I need a little respite now and then. In fact, I actively LOOK for it! Simple-minded, that's me. I love human-interest stories, and of course, anything about dogs makes my day! To me Bo sounds exactly like a name that two little girls would pick. And he is the CUTEST thing.

And, I know, I know, the animal shelter folks are angry that a rescue animal wasn't picked, but honestly, have we gotten to the point in this country where we have to find fault with every little thing every day? Nobody ever seems happy or satisfied. And yet we live in the greatest country in the history of the world and have the best standard of living. I'm not finding fault with your opinions - you have every right to them - just tossing in my 2 cents worth. I would go crazy if every story/poll I saw in the media was about heavy, serious stuff. I definitely feel the need to lighten up. OK, off my soapbox and back to work. LOL!

I certainly see your point, but I have to agree with Barbara. I too love animals, and I enjoy reading about them, working and playing with them, and just plain watching them, (especially wild animals). I do not find any relaxation value in discussing an animal's name, however. There are a zillion topics related to that dog that might have been interesting, IMO, (and yes, this is just my opinion), but the choice of names is not one of them.

To begin with, who cares what the public thinks about that name?

It's none of their business, and they have no right to critique it. That name is the property of the owners of that pooch, (and the dog itself), and they should be the only ones concerned about whether it's right or wrong. If they're happy to call the dog "Cat", I couldn't care less - it's their choice, and it's not my job, (nor my moral right), to critique it. Does a name really matter? Heck I probably would have just named it "Dog".

I agree with you that certain details (and decisions) should be the property of the owner. In fact, I noticed that the President has already tried to set limits on the media by claiming that certain info is family info and off-limits. But does that stop the media??? No way. Not in our celebrity-obsessed culture. Sigh.
