Alright! I am asking questions!
Hello, Thank you all for the warm welcome...I do have a few questions and concerns. Please bare with me...I am new to all this and want to get as much info to help myself understand this disease and get myself better! These questions are a little personal but hey...I guess you gotta do what you gotta do So...here it goes!
Does anyone experience false alarms? Sometimes I feel like a bad crampy feeling in my stomach and rush to the bathroom because I feel like I have to go but dont.....
My stomach cramps get so painful I could throw a chair! Anyone else?
Does it hurt so bad when you have diareaha that tears are rolling down your face? Does it hurt to even have a normal BM?
Anyone experience alot of gas and bloating?
Does the colitis get worse during that time of the month? I find that it does for me!
Well, there u go! Look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!

You may get a variety of answers to these questions, but here's mine:
To the first question:
Yes. That probably happens more often to those of us who have alternating D and C. I'm just guessing, but I suspect that those with D only, rarely have a false alarm, but I could be wrong, (as you might guess, I have alternating D and C, when I react). Another possibility that happens to some of us, is that after a "session", we feel as though we're not through, (incomplete voiding, as the medical types refer to it), but no matter how hard we try, nothing else happens.
To the second question:
I used to get cramps so bad that I could be walking across the room, and when they hit, they would cause me to double over, and almost sink to my knees.
To the third question:
If you're referring to "baboon butt", as Dee so appropriately refers to it, yes. Diarrhea can really do a number on hemorrhoids, and related issues, and that's extremely common with MC. If you're occasionally having normal BMs, though, that's an indication that you're probably one who has alternating D and C. There are several OTC remedies that help a lot for painful posteriors, and the only one I can think of at the moment, is zinc oxide. Petroleum jelly would probably be helpful for that, also. Hopefully, someone else will remember one or two of the other remedies that we've found to be useful.
As a side issue related to this, reactions to dairy products often result in what we refer to as "battery acid D".
To the fourth question:
I used to get gas and bloating so bad that I couldn't sleep at night, and I was actually afraid that I might cough, or twist wrong, or something, and bust my gut open. Most days, I couldn't button the top 2 or 3 buttons on my Levis.
To the fifth queston:
Well, I can't offer any personal experience on this one, but in general, yes, hormones definitely make a difference, and both the D and the menses can be more pronounced, though this can vary by individuals, obviously. In fact, pregnancies that occur during episodes of active MC reactions, almost always bring temporary remission of MC symptoms, which will usually last until about the time that lactation ceases.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I am one of the luckier ones, I suppose, since I did not experience pain in the gut with my MC. The pain from acid D, hemmies, etc - yes. I had nausea and vomiting instead and plenty of it.
I also came down with MC after menopause but agree with what Gloria said.
I remember a couple of times before I started in big time with MC when I had constipation and it hurt so bad to have a movement that I had to ask my husband for a bucket so I could throw up without getting off the "throne". These 2 times were 2-4 months before I started having the D episodes so I don't really know if they were caused by MC or not. I have not had that problem since.
As has already been said...... we have pretty much discussed it ALL here so don't be shy.
Oh, as for the false alarms....... I don't remember that........ I do remember feeling that I wasn't "done" but nothing more came...... then having to go back within a few minutes (like one or two) to have another little squirt maybe.

First, Welcome to the Family,
I too get real crampy and then it is just gas.
Sometimes it I am doubled over in pain and just sit on the pot and cry, then once the explosion hits the cramps go right away. Sometimes when I go it feels like I have just given birth. I have not had a normal bm in so long I don't know what one would even look like. LOL
I can not tell you how much gas and bloating I have. It is such a running joke at my house, my kids even make fun of me. (I stink up my daughter's personal space and my dh always says that a green cloud hangs over our house).
With me the d always get worse around that time of the month b/c of the hormones that are released.
As Shirley said don't be shy.

Hi Windsey,
Yes, to all of that. One of the most annoying parts of this for me is that "incomplete evacuation" phenomenon--always feeling like you need to go some more, even after you've gone, and not being able to. I do not have alternating C and D, just D, so there's a perspective from someone with that type of reaction.
Terribly painful gas, bloating, and cramping are pretty par for the course.
I do notice that the D gets worse around that time of the month, too. I read somewhere--years ago--that this is partly because it is cumulative. Any symptoms you have with MC normally are added to the bloating and cramping from your period, so neither is actually worse than normal, but it seems worse because there's more of it. The additional cramping can cause increased urgency and D.
Keep you questions coming! You'll learn a lot here.

Yall are so awesome! Thank you so much for some answers to my questions! I used to alternate D and C but now its ALL D...And it has become more painful for me since it has gone to all D. My stomach cramps last night got really bad....Sometimes I sit on the pot a cry because it hurts before and during the D and then when I go its gone...and sometimes i feel like i didnt empty all the way....But also I get horrible cramping and keep running to the bathroom thinking I have to go but its just a bunch of gas. I tell you what...I flucate in the size of pants from one day to the next too! Like Tex said...sometimes I cant get my jeans buttoned...I go for the sweat pants alot....but I always look try to look cute though no matter how bad I feel ! :)
Windsey,
You sound just like me except I have never had constipation, just plain ol' d. I had painfull ones last night and this morning. The cramping is just unbearable, I just keep saying to myself that "as soon as I go, the pain will go." I had a couple of false alarms last night as well. I got up twice and ran to the "office" and it was nothing but gas and then got up a couple of times with explosions.
Love,
Rose
